    Todd,

A tad dark for my liking. It seems a tad abstract, though I don't really feel anything from this pic. I think maybe if you lighten it up a bit, you might get a nice texture which would add to the shot.

Nice DOF though, the background is a nice contrast also,

    Dear Todd,

Like Jared said, if you hadn't mentioned it in the title, I would have had a hard time figuring out what it was. Maybe a huge thorn or something . This needs something else, not much mind you, to grab my interest a little more. Texture is a good one, or an interesting pattern in silhouette. Could use some work, but a nice idea.

dark is good if you have a strong subject that presents well in its shape. I think this would be a good shot if you had gotten more of the tree, excluded the bird and keep the shallow DOF. Otherwise, if you want the bird to be part of the pic, I feel you need to expose a little longer so it shows up as part of the pic and not lost in shadow.

I agree - with the dark the bird really becomes a part of the tree, whereas I think the bird would make a great focal point of the picture, if only you could tell where the bird ends and the tree begins. I do like the background, just a hint of texture to it.
