    Tim,
I'm just going to give you what I think are the strong and weak points of the shot.

Usually when the main subjects are centered in a shot is not a good idea, but with this I think it works that the moon(?) is up and centered
The clouds scattered across the sky are good elements and add to the visual appeal
I also like the upper branch silhouette lloking as if it is about to reach or grab the moon.

    The weaker points are,
The moon suffers from blowout, the foreground is not interesting enough to add to the image, aside from the upper branch as mentioned The composition is not bringing out a strong subject or mood that this image can be identified with.
    Just my take on it.

    Re: Night Sun

    Hi Gary,

Actually, that was shot in the middle of the day (it is the sun). I just way under-exposed it. Personally, I'm not enamored with this shot. I was just experimenting. But, others who have viewed it were taken. So, I'm just curious about a more critical review.

    Thanks for your comments,
    Tim

I really like this shot, very cool with how dark it is, lots of potential and it looks like you can have a lot of fun with this, what kind of shutter speed/aperture did you use?

The darkness adds a neat effect, though the bottom of the picture is a tad busy.

    Nice work,

Thanks for the good comments all. I agree that the composition could be stronger.

Mr. Y, that was shot at 1/1600 f20.

FWIW, I have uploaded another image which is a study of the building I was interested in before I got side-tracked playing CCD bloom when metering near the sun. For some reason, folks seemed to like the Night Sun shot better then this.

    BR,

Nice shot Tim. Your idea of a Night Sun is interesting, as it gives a nice blackness effect, which I like very much.

To acchieve maximum dramatic result, I recommend that you convert your images to BW, and try using the crop tool to cut what's not important. For example, you could have easily cut the distracting backgound, without any negative impact to your photo. Maybe if you cut about 60 pixels from the left, and the same ammount from the right, the results could be more interesting. The secret, I guess, is to remove the unnecessary. Minimalism is the key to eye-catching shots.

Post more of your pictures. They getting better and better!

    Best regards.

    Erich
