    Crop

I shot this today with a D70 and Tamron 90mm macro lens. I cropped it, trying to highlight the insect nature of butterflies. THe crop might be too awkward, though. Does it work for you?

I love the sharpness and the colors! I admit that the crop is a bit ... mmm.... surprising. Would you mind posting the original version for comparison?

It is a good crop for that purpose. I like that it has it's probiscus (?) in the flower. I don't think I've ever looked that closely at a butterfly's body parts. I think that the body being the dividing line between clashing lumps of color helps your purpose. Thanks for posting it.

I find this crop to be very interesting, at first the antennea bothered me ( being cut off) but i think thats because its the first thing I saw when I scrolled down..IOW if this had been put on my desk in front of me, i wouldn't have immedietly zoomed in on that.
    Very interesting, and very unusual....

    good job!

i love this, great colors, great crop, great everything

its amazing how you are actually seeing him eating

about the only thing that would make it cooler was if you could have the whole flower in focus, but i don think its really possible at that angle and with that subject

I think it works well, you could even crop a little more off the top for a more standard print size and not really lose anything. Having him in the center looks OK because he's on an angle. Good shot, very detailed.

Another keeper, beautiful color and sharpness. I have no problem at all with the crop. I think your presentation accomplished your goal perfectly. If anything I think a tighter crop at the top would have been more effective. Just don't lose the lower portion of the body.
