My impression is that there were several things wrong with the original shot (never easy to make shot like these).
You have however gone too far with this image in your favorite imaging software; the 'halo' around the sun and the "grayish" waves in the middle of the water somehow tell me that you pushed the 'curves' or/and any other tool (selective Shadow and Highlight filter?) too far. I also notice a strange kind of 'roughness' on the water, almost looks like a lighting effect was applied in Photoshop with one of the channels being used as a texture channel. A pitty, both elements are really distracting, for me at least.
I would like to see the original photograph.
The photography part of the image however was well executed, thanks for sharing.
I would agree that it looks as though you pushed what probably turned out initially to be an underexposed shot and pushed it out as much as you could which would explain the grain, odd color drop offs and halos. These type of shots usually wind up underexposed because the sun is fooling your in camera meter to calculating there is too much light in the scene.Otherwise, it is composed and framed nicely,
