first post - just trying to learn

Great site- Discovered it tonight as I was touching up some pics from last weeks excursion to acadia n.p. Ive got a typical macro of a wild purple flower- this is the raw image. Any suggestions on how much to crop to really get it to 'pop'.

    Tin-Cup,

Most people on these forums don't really mind that much when people play with other peoples pictures, sort of what this site is great for, the friendliness that it endures in others.

There are some that do mind, but they are rare, especially when someone is trying to help and improve someones photography, by example, remembering "A Picture is worth a Thousand Words".

I think I'd do something like this to get ridd of the distracting twigs on the left and lower left but leave the dark area in the upper right to prove contrast in the shot. I'd also want to keep the very nice detail captured in the leaves. The crop also moves the main subject away from the center of the frame to avoid a 'bullseye' look.
    Nice work and welcome.

Hi Pete. Welcome to PR. There are many Photoshop Gurus here. I'm just a beginner. Here's my take on your photo. I cropped it a little differently and used Curves in PhotoShop to attempt to get the flower to pop. I dunno, I didn't mess with the saturation. My interpretation looks a little over saturated. I cloned out the branches on the bottom left. (poorly, but I hope you get the idea .)

Hope we see lots more of your work!
