    Eye of the Tiger

I often find myself getting up in the middle of the night to drive or hike to a spot for the perfect light. This shot is from one of my more successful attempts. Arches NP, and in fact, all of the 4 Corner area, is a landscape photographer's dream come true. I hope you enjoy this!

That's awesome! Is it Photoshopped at all? Filters?
My only crit is that the foreground is a little too dark.

    Killer shot.

    BRAVOO! Clap, clap, clap

Nice work! Looks like you may of had to do some scrambling to get that shot. Very nice. Just curious, how does it look just a tad lighter?

    wow!
I love how dark the foreground is...it gives it a more abstract look until you look closer.
    Bravo!
Do you have a gallery in Seattle? I just took a peek at you Seattle photos and I'm blown away...literally speechless...

Thanks, Chuck! Not much PS here at all...just some curves, levels and sharpening. No filters, either. Yes, I agree the FG is a little dark, but that's the way the scene was in front of me. I do have a version with a lighter FG, but it doesn't look as natural to me, and I don't think the added dynamic range helps the mood of the image...I want the viewer to pay attention to the "eye". Also, it's very important to see this image on a well calibrated monitor as there is a lot of detail still visible in the dark areas. Believe me, the print looks quite nice.

Thanks, Tim! The hike was a little tough, especially in the dark, but the end result was well worth it, I think. Please see my response to Chuck re: the FG "issue."

Thanks, PlantedTao! I think you and I are on the same page re: the FG. At first the FG may look "detail-less" but the closer and harder you look, the more you can appreciate some of the subtlties in the shadows...even at this greatly reduced web version.

I do have a small permanent gallery at Harborview Medical Center, close to downtown Seattle. If ever you're in town, be sure to stop by there and have a gander.

Cool Re: Eye of the Tiger

I join in the applause - and after viewing your website, a standing ovation.

Wow. You are an artist in the true sense of the word. Your images are way beyond what I could ever dream of accomplishing. I viewed some of your website and plan to go back to see more. Do you have any of your photos on display anywhere near NY or NJ? I would love to see them in person.

Please keep posting - you can post in Viewfinder too, and share a little about yourself and your photography, etc. VF is a forum where people can post just about anything. If you want to post some images, but not for critiquing, it would be the place to do that.

Please keep posting. I've already learned a few things about composition just looking at your website.

Thank you for those very kind words, Liz. It's always nice to hear/read encouraging comments from a fellow photography enthusiast. Unfortunately I don't have any images on disply in the NY or NJ areas. So far I've been limited to the west coast. I'm currently in negotiations with a library in New Hamshire. So maybe something will pan out there. I'll let you know if that works out. Thanks for the heads up about the VF forum...I'll check it out now.

Excellent shot, and even better creativity in the composition. The fg holds enough to make it another element of interest but not enough to take away from the "eye" . Well done

Hi Mahesh, well so far for every shot of yours i've seen my only critique i can come up with is "fantastic, Brilliant, and a joy to behold".

But for me this is no cat, this is a crocodile or an alligator due to that top jaw line

    regards

Thank you, Gary! I completely agree with you about the FG, and I'm glad you feel that way. There's a fine line between increased dynamic range and too little shadow detail. Hopefully I have been able to walk that thin line here.
