    Birds on a Winter Day

    Hi everyone,

I'm just a starter but have been interested in photography for some time now. I took a bunch of pictures with my new digital camera (DSC-P73) and thought this one was the best.

I'm a little unsure how to correctly resize and post pictures, I hope the quality on this attachment is ok. Is having a service like photobucket better for posting pictures?

Any advice or criticism is greatly appriciated, I know I have a lot to learn and thank everyone for any bit of informatio they wish to add.

I look forward to contributing to the community here.

    Thanks!

    -Bohh

Re: Birds on a Winter Day

-Try to get a focal point
-Snow banks are distracting at top
-Try to capture more of an event (like a flock taking off)

Those are my three advices for your picture.

As for editing, I use Adobe Photoshop, but you dont need that to just crop/resize if there is nothing else you can use Microsoft Paint to crop/resize.

    Keep the pictures comming

    Bohh,

I totally agree with the previous comments

The photo looks nice and sharp (good thing), topic lets you down a little.

One thing I try to do when taking photos is to think about what the picture is going to tell me about the situation a few weeks from now.

With this picture you should either decluter the photo by cropping out the snow banks and therefore concentrate on the birds or tilt the camera up a little to include the snowbanks if there was something interesting there.

It may even be better to crop around the small group of birds and ignore the two wandering in the background.

The other thing to remember is that this even when cropped it is a group of birds doing nothing much except standing on ice/snow.

Dont get discouraged I still take loads of photos that look good when taken but a few days later when viewing them I think why did I take this shot.

Keep posting and you'll soon learn what works and what doesn't.
