Oops, I didn't have my facts straight. The camera does indeed say "DV IN when I plug in the firewire cable. So my situation is almost certainly software related.

Interstingly, my google searches have yet to find a case where somebody using XP was unable to connect but found a software related solution.

IRQ? I haven't fooled around with that stuff since my Soundblaster didn't like my Trident VGA card back in the summer of '92. Don't even know where to look on XP.

Lot's of win98 driver issues and solution. But not XP. I have an old image of previous XP install kicking around somewhere, maybe I will turn back the clock.
