    Wonderful News!!!!

Ok, after years and years of despising windows, and countless frustrating atempts at converting to Linux, which I really like, but at this point just don't understand, I have taken the plunge and bought my first Mac!!!!

Ok, so it's not a new state of the art bells and whistels Mac. In fact most Mac users out there would probably snort at it, but for me it is a gateway, I guess i coulda used a better metaphore..., into a new and uncharted world of computing bliss. It is Graphite DV IMAC G3. It has a 500mhz processor, which is only 300 less than my amd 800, and probably just as fast lol, and of course it has all of the mac goodies like firewire slot loading dvd/cdrw. It is equiped with OSX 10.3.2 Panther. I just payed for it like 10 minutes ago.

I do have one question for you mac users out there. A friend of mine recently got a G4 that had Jaguar on it and she bout the Tiger upgrade. Can i use her copy to upgrade mine, or do they have some way to keep you from doing that like XP.

You can easily install Tiger off her copy, they do nothing to prevent it, no keys, no activation, nothing.

The first thing you should do is hook up a 2-button mouse and turn on Expose.

If you have any questions, just ask.

Congratulations John. That will make a nice birthday present for you. I'm sticking with my PC, but I did get the chance to use a Mac G5 while I was working in the EP area of my company last winter. The only thing that I didn't like was the one button mouse, but like Seb said, you can change that.

Nice, very nice! I have an iMac as well, it's a Rev.A iMac (circa 1998).

What is the advantage of using a two button mouse with a mac? Will my scrolly wheel work!??

    Expose???

The same advantages as using one on the PC.

Go into system preferences, you'll find Expose in there. Turn it on and mess with it.

Whoa, a Mac with more than one mouse button?
I'm not sure our Marketing department could cope

I might look at one for the next laptop.
Has to be fast and rugged, preferably metal case, huge HD.

I can't speak to the ruggedness of powerbooks, but they sure don't look any less delicate than a flower. But fast??? Oh yeah baby!

    Re: Wonderful News!!!!

I have an old Tangerine 33mhz iMac sitting in a box in the spare room, waiting for me to set up my office and make a space for it on the desk. Next to it I plan to set up my first Performa 6116 CD (!!). Then I hope to get my old Wall Street Powerbook working and stick it in between. Between them all I have old info to transfer and cool games to play in my twiddle time.

Then on my other desk I'll make space for my present 15" Powerbook, and leave a nice space for my future dream: BIG monitor.

    Then I'll be set.

Oh yeah, I need a spot for my music keyboard, scanner, photo printer, and external hard drives.

    Macs are SO fun!

I can't wait to upgrade to Tiger. I waited a bit until most of the bugs were worked out. Now it looks soooo cool.
