Payn, that's great. Don't let anybody pee on your parade. (I wanted to use another word, but this is a family site!)
All this salon stuff makes me laugh. As anyone who has studied art history, knows, the painters in the French salons of the 18th century were accomplished technicians who produced photo-realistic paintings of overly sweet, pretty things without any real emotion -- much like the Wal mart photo studios of today. They adhered rigidly to the rules.
Then, the Impressionists came along and broke the rules and changed everything and while ridiculed at first, they eventually became the most popular school of painting and paved the way for the names we know today. If you go to any museum today, you'll see the Salon painters like Bouguereau relegated to the closets, while Impressionists like Monet are a household name.
