    what is a "kangaroo" bag?

At the conference I went to, one of the photographers showed us his bag, and I liked it. You could nestle the camera into the top of it and use it sorta like a tripod. He called it a "kangaroo bag", and I didn't ask questions because I assumed I could look it up and find it online. But I'm not having any luck.

Is there's a brand called "kangaroo", or is it just a nickname for a style?

Thanks Peter, but that's not it.

His bag was kinda square, and had pockets on each end, and a pocket on the front. It was a shoulder bag.

I have a bag like the one in the link you shared. I like mine, but I like the idea of nestling the camera into the top of the bag. I could use that a LOT for my style.

After looking at a lot of sites, I think the terminology is a bit misused and refers to a pouch style, like in a Kangaroo Pouch.

You can get small table tripods that attach to the camera and you can rest it donw, they are quite small too.

thanks Peter, I'll just have to look around. I've got several small tripods but there are situations where they are just not the right tool. I need a soft bag.

What about a wheat bag that people use to heat up and use to heat areas to help heal them, would that work, like a mini bean bag.

    You are up late.

    Chunk, EXACTLY!

Or it would nestle firmly into a curved bridge rail, or even out an ergonomically formed bench, or fit on top my knees as I sit on a grassy hillock ....

Kata makes bags something like that...

I recently saw an ad for Kata bags in Photo District News, and was so impressed I bought a shoulder harness (sling) and small side bag, mainly to use while I shoot on location (not a gear bag, but to place my camera in between shots).

Here's a link to their photo and video line:

It doesn't sound exactly like what you're looking for, but their gear is cool...
