    tripod comparison

I had a great deal of difficulty getting position for the last flower pic I recently posted in the critique forum so began to think about maybe I should bite the bullet and get one of those newfangled tripods.
I've read all the threads on tripods here and finally decided on a manfrotto 055 probx.
I guess it does have some advantages.
The Sears tripod was bought at a flea market for $18 in the mid 80s. It is a very sturdy tripod and has held up to years of abuse though I did finally wear the head out.
The manfrotto was 180 at Adorama.

low and high advantages without center column deployed except to sho horizontal use on manfrotto

Pardon the poor setting but its raining most of the time and I didn't have time to look for better. Anyone into weeding?

I'm sure you will love the new legs Frog. One of the biggest advantages will be the individual leg adjustments, especially when you're on uneven ground.

Same legs I have. Love them. They go even lower.

Is that the 322RC2 head? I've never seen one pictured from that angle and could never figure out how you would keep it from falling over sideways. Looks like it doesn't go sideways. It only goes fore/back and pan? Do you like it? Is it easy one hand operation?

If the head doesn't go sideways, you may have trouble using the horizontal bar position on the 055 except in portrait mode.

It goes sideways if you rotate the quick release on the camera base.
Yes it is easy one hand but you have to be careful as you release the lever to lock if you are getting a really tight composition as it might move a little as you release the lever.

Hey, Jimmy. I did get that bent one straightened on the old one

4 those that don't know I actually shut the car door on one of the legs of the Sears and Jimmy and I spent a bit of time trying to straighten it when we met. We did pretty good,(Jimmy carryies interesting tools) and I was able to make it slide easy again with the aid of a desk drawer at home.

Hey, Rick....Its a clunker but its sturdy and still works fine after all these years of abuse.
