    Too late for the jump

The mile walk up the hill nearly defeated me, and I got to the jump on the rally stage just as is closed for the day.
But there were a few things to photograph while walking up the hill, each time I paused for breath and to rest the aching legs.

Yes, that is Lewis Hamilton and a lucky competition winner on the way up the hill.
Yes, that is Hirvonen reunited with his race car.
Yes, that picture at the crossing was really close to the live track.
Yes, it does require a van-load of engineers to start an F1 car.
Yes, that was the last car of the day over the jump, and no I didn't even get to the jump in time.

Lovely shots, again. The third is a fantastic capture, what were you shooting with? Always nice to see the SLR on the road too

I leave the EXIF intact so people can dig into the image and find it.

Excellent images Paul. I love the Hirvonen shot w/ the gravel flying - that definitely says rally. And the wide-angle pan on the Lancia(?) really makes that scene.

Cool, thanks for the top tip! Forgot to ask, where was the rally?

    Nice shots, Paul!
Wouldn't any of those drivers give you a ride?

A wood at the top of the hill past the finish of the hill climb has been converted over the last few years into a chalk base rally course, with a tarmac u-turn at the end of the outward leg (great for the press).
Public access is fantastic, despite the worst three words in the English language (Health and Safety) forcing barriers a fair way back. Adding crossings and shutting down the track every 30 minutes or so has made it more accessible.
Each year the drivers ask for the jump to be bigger, and so longer, I agree !

    No rides, Frog.
Unless you turn up with your own nomex suit and helmet.
Besides, most of the world champions' cars were driven by the champions !
So the motoring media has those seats

Great shot of L.H. That's a passenger experience I'd never forgot, I am certain!

Are you sure those engineers aren't looking for a car? They look pretty happy don't they?

    The Rally shots are great.
