    Spring Ride

Spring has officially reached Utah, although it's been snowing here today and I will be skiing this weekend. But I am starting to make the shift back to the bike. Yesterday was my first real Salt Lake mountain bike ride this season. I went out with Olympus Visionary Jay Kinghorn, who also lives here in SLC. We weren't sure if the weather was going to cooperate but we ended up getting treated to spectacular spring views of the mountains and beautiful sunset. I took along the Olympus E-PL2 Pen camera (it was the appropriate camera considering I was riding with an Olympus Visionary) and captured a bit of the ride. That ride and these photos are a great start to what I hope will be a great mountain bike season! Looking forward to riding with Jay again, too

Good looking shots John. Glad you are getting back on your bike also!
Weather down in LSC looks cold and damp this weekend, Races in Tooele may not happen.

Are you supposed to be here this weekend? It's been snowing a bit today and Snowbird is reporting 3 inches in the last 12 hours. It may be spring by the calendar, but it's not very "springy" today.

I like that first shot a lot John it has great texture - it makes me think of the low country winter tundra in Wenatchee though - not much green yet, but a great view nevertheless!

Three interesting shots! Love the tonals on the first one, especially.

Four seasons are a great thing (something we don't have here in southern Cali), but there's nothing like spring breaking through after a long winter.

Mommy likes it - Mommy really likes the sunset one, of course, cuz that's what she's into! Actually, the lone tree in black and white is kinda really what Mom is into . . . Mom is so easy to please . . . .

Thanks for the comments, everyone! I was really surprised at the response to this photo. I thought it was good. But obviously, it was better than I thought. That's always a nice surprise. It also means the photo deserves a little extra evaluation to figure out why it was so successful.

It's so successful because it is such a great composition, that's why!

    Re: Spring Ride

I suppose you are to use to the beautiful surroundings where you live

The composition is just beautiful, many elements
the slope of the hill in diagonal across the photo,
the impressive mountains in the background
    dark cloudy sky but with
beautiful light on the rider who on top is wearing the bright yellow - look at me - windbreaker
the path leading the eyes to the rider
the 2 trees complementing/balancing the composition

    It just works all together
