Hi Dylan, Hope your mom is doing well today. Sounds like some great new gear for you. Although it got opened early, we got a Kodak 1012 IS p/s camera. When we get the Pentax's fixed it will be a back up camera, but for now it is our primary.
The main reason for getting it is our next gift this year, all of the smiling faces of most of our grandkids as they opened their gifts. The camera got a good work out...hehe
    Merry Christmas
    Ken

I bought myself the lens. We don't celebrate Christmas but it was a timely purchase.

Dylan, I hope your mom's surgery went well and she is in good spirits. I received a Nikon SB800 flash and the Nikon creative lighting DVD. And the big gift was the pictures of the grandkids opening presents, Jeff

Well I've had my new camera for quite some time, but it was a Christmas gift. I got a mini tripod, lens cleaner, a walkaround SLR case, and a hand strap.

My lovely wife got me the book Portraits by Steve McCurry. It's actually not the book that she thought she was getting. What she meant to order was National Geographic: The Photographs. They both have the same photo on the cover so it was an easy mistake. I will still enjoy looking at all of the wonderful images in this book.

    Happy Holidays to everyone.

A 70-200mm f/4L lens It wasn't the next on my list to get, but it will do.

I also got Joe McNally's book, "The Moment it Clicks" and Freeman Patterson's book, "Photographing the World Around You".

    Ooh some nice gifts here.

I feel the same as you now Steve! But I did think of a little point and shoot I have been after.

Hubby and I got a Canon 110 SX IS to share.
He has done a little filming on it and I took some pictures with it today! I just used portrait mode on it
Got one of my beautiful daughters to stand by my backdoor to shoot her in natural light.
It was nice, just to point and shoot, for a change.
Great little camera. Much better than the sony cybershot DSC-P10. Can't say I noticed much, if any, shutter lag.

Great pictures Alison. I can't beleive those are from a P/S! Just shows it really is the photographer and not the camera.

Indeed! I think knowing your light helps enormously! I mean, full on flash looks awful.
Having some editing skills also helps. Which basically consisted of Duplicate layer, soft light and then wacking up my central levels.

Guess what else I got today? Error 99 on my 40D!!! GREAT!!! NOT!!!
I personally believe the jealousy chip has kicked in since my 40D caught sight of the 110 SX IS lol

Yep, I'm sure the Brussel Sprout consortium would love to have your daughter selling their sprouts. They wouldn't be able to keep the stores stocked

Beautiful photos Alison, I like the carving one a lot too!

I don't want photo stuff, as it's work, instead of play. I had my eye on some fuzzy boots, but dh doesn't like to buy footware as I'm rather particular.

I did get a really cool trench coat, with a leopard print lining, a new little purse, my oldest wrote me a poem, my youngest ordered me something online which is yet to come, and I have off the 24th thru the 5th of January.

Oh wait! My kids got some really funky mismatched jammies, so those will be fun for photos!
    I sleep, but I don't rest.

My wife and I don't exchange gifts we just buy one big item we both want, but as far as from everyone else, I ended up with Steve McCurry's book Portraits. (LOVE IT!!!) He's one of my favorite photographers and one of the reasons I picked up a camera and the book is awesome. Also got a couple photoflex umbrella swivels, a westcott collapsible umbrella (was needing a backup, my other one was getting quite the workout), some grids for my alien bees, and a digital picture frame.

I looked through this book last night. Some really great images in there. The one that really stuck me is the one of a young boy with a couple bandelier of ammunition on him. I was a little surprised to not see the portrait of the woman on the cover of the book that Steve took many years after he made the original iconic image of her.
