    Going to display my work....

Okay, so my brother works at a bar/restaurant and they regularly showcase artists in their dining room and display artwork for sale. In general he tells me stuff actually sells fairly well.

He's talked with one of the managers about having me display some of my photos.

Feeling slightly overwhelmed at the prospect. Haven't seen the room yet. I'm thinking I'll do 11x14s (I can print those myself) matted and framed, maybe get a few blown up really large, and intermix a few 8x10s.

I gotta figure out pricing though. I'm at a total loss there.

Congratulations Cara! Any idea how you plan on framing and matting your prints? I do all of mine myself. I order pre cut mattes from www.framedestination.com and I order all of my frames from www.framedestination.com in case you're looking for a supplier.

    Wow Cara that's great.

When you get your work setup you should post the name of the restaurant.

Is it in the Chicago area?

Sounds like a great opportunity for you.

Before you invest a lot of time and money in this project, I suggest you look at the wall space and find out what previous work has sold well.

Will a few larger more expensive pieces be better than a lot of smaller less expensive pieces? From one N&W shooter to another, I can tell you that my most favorite subjects are far outsold by other less interesting subjects (at least to me) so keep the subject matter in mind - especially for a restaurant setting. Few people will want to see macros of insects and spiders while eating an onion blossom

Do you want to use the opportunity to showcase your style and get your name out there?

Or do you want to sell as many images as possible?

    Have fun!

Re: Going to display my work....

    Thanks everyone.

Loupey, my brother's actually been pushing me that I'll need bigger shots. I'd actually like to mix in more of the smaller sizes.

I pretty think for macros it's going to be more butterflies and ladybugs... the ones folks don't get creeped out by. Which is too bad because some of the cooler insects I have are the creepy ones

I'm figure I'll ask my brother and the manager there about shots I feel may be on the edge. I have some great shots of a Cooper's Hawk with a mouse, but that may be a little gory for a dining room.

It's in Chicago, Fireside Restaurant. North side of the city.

This is probably a few months away. Which is probably good, since I'll need that time to figure out what the heck I want to put up!
