    September 1st

For those of you who don't live in the US, September 1st is Labor Day. It's a sort of end of summer holiday. And in Salt Lake City, it was dramatic. I woke up to lightning, thunder, and lots of hail. It was no Hurricane Gustav. But it certainly did signal a season change in a big way. So, in spite of being tired and sore from a couple days of big mountain bike rides, I did the right thing and hiked up to just below 10,000 feet to record our first taste of winter. It won't stick. But it's good to see as I also just bought my 08/09 Alta ski pass. Winter can't come soon enough

    Perspective

For perspective, I posted some photos from the same trail less than two weeks ago. It was a very different day...

I like all three but my favorite is definitely the last one. It looks like it belongs on a calender or post card, Jeff

John, I love that last shot. That one is just begging to be printed large and framed for display. These shots totally made my day.

Thanks. I'm glad I made the effort. It was too good of an opportunity to miss. I'd been up there just a few days before I wondered if the flowers would get snowed on soon. And they did

Wow, those are awesome. For reference, we're having a cooling trend today -- it's only supposed to be 93 today. Don't worry we'll be back into the 100s tomorrow though.

    Re: September 1st

Great shots John! The last one is my favorite too. It's a beautiful shot - great composition. I love the lighting on the first one. Perfect timing.

Ahhhhh yes! September! May and September are my favorite months. I always feel like September is like New Year's Day - new beginnings, clean clear fresh air, leaves beginning to turn - and usually the beginning of cooler weather.

Thanks for sharing - you picked a great place to live!

    Re: September 1st

even Photo-Mom has to say those are photos to die for - had been thinking, this weekend, of years ago when Photo-Dad and i hiked up between the flatirons outside Boulder on Labor Day weekend in what was sorta snow and sorta ice on the trees and other vegetation . . . it occurred to me to wonder what it was like there this weekend, and what it was like for our oldest offspring, also in a place where there might be some early winter - really enjoying those photos by such a talented kid - wonder where he got it!? - P-M
