    Self-Portraits

Hey all! I've been recently toying with the idea of trying some self-portraits. Family members are asking for pics of me, but since I'm always the one behind the camera, I really don't have any nice ones. I've done the usual look-in-the-mirror-with-the-camera ones, but those aren't the kind of shots you send family. I want to do something a little nicer, and of course, I don't think anyone I know will do as good a job as me.
Now, I've noticed folks here are starting a lot of fun post-your-version-of-this-theme threads, so I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and start this one. Self-portaits? Post 'em here!
Of couse, I have to post the first one (and probably the worst one this thread will see). This was taken a couple years ago. An experiment. I just held the camera out and shot. 100 T-Max, EOS 650, 28-70. I know it's bad, but don't laugh, you're next!

    you know my weakness...

LOL...between how much Speed, walterick and I like to take pics of ourselves.....you may get at least 50 pics LOL...anway..I'll play as usual...
    ;)

this was taken labout two weeks back and the second is more normal...taken last year at Christmas...with added diffused glow for my hubby's desk at work(he went with a totally different one(oh well)

glad you restarted this idea because here's a lot of new names recently and if you hadn't posted a self pic I might have still been thinking you looked like an 'ole hippy surfer with a long dark beard or something lol...glad I was wrong ;)

Well, since they asked so nicely, we obviously have to play along.

Here's one you haven't seen yet Nat!

And one you have seen before.

Wow, those are great! I didn't think about doing anything so glamourous. Maybe a cool angle like that would really be memorable to family members.

These were both shot with a Coolpix 3500. The first one was with it set on my desk. I set the self-timer, hit the shutter release, and let it shoot. The second one, I placed it on my tripod, framed it, set the self-timer, hit the shutter release, and got in position.

The Celestron C-8 weighs about 43 pounds with the tripod. It feels heavier than that when carrying the whole thing, but that's because of it's bulk. I usually carry it out the front door or out the back door - usually 50 feet or less.

For the Venus transit of the sun (8 Jun 04), I loaded it in the back of my car - on blankets - and drove it to a location where I could see the sunrise. That's the only time I've taken it out of the yard. Here's a shot of my that setup. (What can I say? I'm a photographer, so I photograph stuff!) My buddy Brian brought his Celestron C-8 out for this event as well.

    Mad Tapper

Since its a self portrait I thought it should reflect what I do, or what I've done the longest in my life...

Yeah, but nat lives closest to ME!

Sebastian -- I would give anything to be able to pull off a smooth bald head. It simply looks too damned cool.

I'd comment on villena, but she's too damned far away

    I wish!!!

If I ever win the lottery, I'm buying a Celestron C-14!!! With all the accessories. ;-)

Actually, it is a Celestron C-8. I had wanted one since I was 19, and I got it for Christmas 2002 (when I was 40). I have enjoyed it immensly. The views are spectacular, and I've got some really nice shots of the sun and moon with it, along with one decent shot of Mars.

So do you have an 1100 in your backyard?

Nat, beautiful you are, more than a beautiful face.
I teach tap, jazz and ballet, I'm studying modern and flamenco.
Tiara - I'll definitely pass. Im not a girly girl haha.
    But thanks
Your self portraits ROCK! I am really sucky at it. Never getting what I want with it.

Ps- while Gene and Fred are nice with their ballet style tap, my favorites are among Gregory and Sammy, Bojangles and Daddy Rice... you know, they have the jazz and African slave dance flair to it. And dont forget Sandman!
