    Saguaro.

Hey gang. I'm back to scanning slides! Hope you all had a happy and safe holiday.

This shot is one of the reasons I wanted a scanner that could scan film. I've been staring at this too long wanting to get it blown up but haven't had the chance. Kodak E100VS (don't like it) Nikon FM2N and Sigma 24mm at 2.8 on a tripod with mirror LU and cable, shutter set to BULB and waited till I got a couple of flashes before I released the plunger. Took about 15 frames to get this. Scanned it with my new Epson 4990. I'm having a tough time configuring the scanner to get what I want so this is straight out of the scanner with only some fill flash added, no sharpening or anything. It's one of my new favorites, hope you enjoy.

I'll throw my first Phoenix sunset in here just for kicks Taken last June from a mountain in our neighborhood. Btw, the saguaro picture was taken last July during the monsoon season. Velvia 50, Nikon FM2n with 180mm handheld. No PS.

Thanks buddy! For sunsets I usually meter around the clouds while keeping the sun out of the frame and then add a stop or so, depending on the luminosity of the clouds. I remember hiking up that mountain and grumbling about missing the sunset, then suddenly topping a crest and catching the sun's final rays! Gotta love it!

Hey, what can I say? I'm a fair guy and I like to give everyone a chance Unfortunately, I keep trying Kodak slide films every so often thinking that they can't be as bad as I remember them. Then they are. You're exactly right, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! I do love Kodak Portra NC and TMax though. Thanks for the compliments! I think I'll stick the cactus shot in Critique as I want to get some particular feedback on it.

    Thanks again!

Hey, I'm a Fuji man primarily, but I do love Porta 160 NC and Kodak Gold 100. Everything else I shoot is Fuji.

Superia Xtra 400 is my everyday film, and it's what I've got in the F5 right now. I occasionally shoot Superia Xtra 800 for night shots and low light stuff. NPS is good, and I love NPH! In the slide films, Sensia 100 is great stuff, as is Provia 100, and I've been please with the couple of rolls of Provia 400 I've shot. Of course, Velvia (THE Velvia, as in 50) is the stuff of legends and legendary photographers.

    Hey Speedo

I'm with ya there on the Fuji fix. Provia is my favorite "all around" film because it handles people much better than Velvia and has better colors and grain than Sensia. I have tried either NPS or NPH, I don't remember which. I didn't like it, though I didn't shoot people with it either. I started out shooting with Kodak Gold 100 and used it almost exclusively for years. Then I kept hearing about Reala so I tried i, loved, it, and never went back. Then came the biggun, Velvia, and it's almost the only thing I shoot anymore. I still haven't tried the new Velvia 100 but the 100F stinks IMO

I wish I had shot this with Velvia because I hear the Kodak slide films have grain problems. Oh well, at least I got the capture ;)
