    redesigned b-card...need comments

I hate designing art for myself but I needed to redesign my business card, incorporating one of my recent photos. One of my graphic designer friends has already gone over it for me but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask my photog friends here as well. So please give me your honest comments or suggestions. Pity is optional. Thanks!

I think it looks great. First immediate impression - it stands out with the color and tells you what you want to know. The photograph is a good choice, looks almost like digital art due to the great sky and shape of the building.

Only down side I see is that it looks expensive to print. I checked out your website too, and it looks good - but doesn't mention photography. Since this card will direct prospectives to your website, you might want to add a page about that.

    Very sharp

I love the design. My only concern would be the size of the very detailed picture when shrunk down to business card size. Might it be hard to make out at that size.

Otherwise the design is very nice.

Thanks anotherview! The photo is a composite, you can view my comments on it in the Faces of Downtown L.A. thread.

Nope. Won't be expensive at all to print. I use precut, clean edge Avery paper and print them out on my home printer. But even if I took it to my local printer it would only cost a couple hundred bucks or so for about 1000. As for the website, it is currently a work in progress. That's why you don't see anything mentioned yet about photographic services.

    Thanks again for the comments!

Thank you, Jeff! I've already printed a test card at full resolution and the photo detail is surprisingly good. One of my original concerns was actually that the image might feel a bit too large for the card and weigh down the flow of design. I guess now that I've mentioned that I'll wait and see if anyone takes issue with that or not.

    Again, I appreciate your comments!

Couple hundred bucks for 1000 is absurd, americasprinter.com will do 4 color over 1 for 75 bucks for 2500. I can send you some of my cards if you want to see quality, they look really freaking nice.

As for the design, definitely works. If they come out fine on inkjet then go for it, but if considering offset press print runs, make sure you get theire specifications for type size and style. White type in color tends to block up if its small or very detailed, and some of the type on here would warrant closer examination by the print shop just to be safe. Most print shops are very eager to provide specs, so finding it out should be no problem whatsoever.

    Good luck with it.

    I second that!

1st of all, the card looks GREAT.

Secondly, I agree with Seb - I got my business cards from americasprinter.com and they came out FANTASTIC. Just make sure they return your disc if you don't send it via the 'net. They still have my zip disk, grrrrr....

Thanks Seb and Megan! Right now printing at home is working for me, but I will definitely keep this company in mind. $75 is quite a deal. Thanks for the info!

I think it is well done the only thing I'm unsure about and continues to bother me is that droplet---not as much the actual droplet but the way it Vs keeps my eye distracted---could you fill it with something else maybe...I like the colors and the overall look...

Thanks Nat. Do you mean the droplet in my logo? To get a better idea of what you're seeing, perhaps you can elaborate on just how it distracts you? And with what would you suggest filling it to convey the idea of lucidness? I realize not everyone sees things the same way when they view a design, so I'm just trying to understand your comments a little better.

Seb, I took a second look at americaprinter.com and think I will give it a try for 1000 business cards. You can't really go wrong at $49 for 4/1 plus UV coating. Thanks for mentioning it!
