Since digital and the advent of the rear screen, I've owned 6 bodies, and probably another 6 compacts. I've never put a "screen protector" on any of them. If you are talking about the thin little packing screen thingy, then most definitely off. Never had a scratch or problem. My iPhone, iPad, computer screen, lenses...naked.

No hard plastic protectors for me. Used one in the past and had problems with dirt getting behind it and doing some damage to the screen. Since then I have the stick on type Zagg ones. They are tough as hell and keep the screen like new.

I use one....a bit of a hassle to open but not enough to not want it on there.

D5000, I make sure it's folded inside before it goes in the bag.

I put one of the sticky kind on a P&S we had once. Didn't like it and took it off. Have never even thought of putting one any of my other cameras.

I have the hard plastic protector that came with the camera, I put it on and the only time I look at the screen is to set the menu items. It's an non-issue for me.

Cameras are like phones. They will become old technology very quickly so I don't see the point unless you intend on using it for many years.
By the time people get a couple of scratches on their Iphone it's time for an upgrade, so no.
I have my Leicas in half cases because I intend on using them until film is no more.
Lenses are a different thing though.

Re: Rear LCD protector on or off?

The clear plastic lcd protector on my D80 got messed up long ago.
I don't use the rear lcd much except to access menue and to get a quick look at a shot I've taken.
I didn't want it to get scratched up so I got one like this... Buy.com - Camera 3.0"" LCD Hood Sun Shade & Screen Protector for Nikon D3100, D5100, D7000 & More

As mentioned above its a little inconvenient to open and shut and it blocks the left arrow of the multiselector button a bit but I don't have to worry about the screen getting messed up to the point it is unusable and I can't afford a new camera right now.

All my bodies have the plastic protector that came with the camera. They are all in perfect condition.

I'm careful with my cameras. Mine are always in a nice protective bag unless I'm actually in the middle of shooting. I don't want to look like a dumb tourist with a camera dangling around my neck.. (remember I live in Paris)

I am very particular with all my equipment. I keep all the boxes and paperwork and if and when I want to sell an item they are placed back in the box and look like they have never been used, Jeff

I see that this post has been viewed 145 times with 12 responding. Did I make this too complicated by giving you two choices to pick from? If I did the polls with 3 or 4 choices must be real mind boggling. I was just trying to get a feel for what others are doing with their cameras. Thanks to those that have made the extra effort to choose one or the other and actually click on it, Jeff

Not sure what you mean by protection. The film that comes over the screen I take off and I have never added another screen protector to my camera. I used to protect my lenses, but had a mishap with a filter and it marked up a very expensive lens. So no protection.

I too keep all my boxes and paper work from everything I buy. I keep everything in cases, but keep the boxes for resale purposes.

Don't Nikon DSLR's come with a hard plastic LCD cover? I think that may be part of the confusion. Canon DSLR's don't come with an LCD cover, other than the real thin static sticker type cover that a lot of electronic screens are shipped with. Those aren't really designed to be kept on the screen once you start using them.

I peeled my stickers off if that is what you mean.
I try to protect my cameras but I have a feeling I may not be as particular about cosmetics as some. They spend a lot of time in backpacks or jacket pockets in all kinds of harsh conditions.

I guess it is my fault for not being clear enough. What I was talking about was the hard plastic cover that comes on the Nikon cameras. Do you leave that on or take it off, Jeff

LCD Screens? What are those? LOL

I keep mine on for my D300, my E-P1 doesn't have one.

I keep on the one that came with d800

i did scratch the d300; I bought it used, it did not have the thick screen plastic, and I beleived it being more scratch resistant, also scratched the nex5n, so , yes I do use the screen protector
