    Program mode

So .. yesterday I went on a trip out to the country, one of the guys had a remote control choper and took it out while the food was ready, I was feeling quite tired and shot in program mode, the camera worked beautifully, sometimes is nice to give up control, the D300 can do nicely as a point and shoot (rather large and heavy though)

Still shot in Raw and passed it through photomatix

PM can be used as lazy manual. I can under/over expose shots as needed. Nice capture with the blurred rotor blades.

    Re: Program mode

I never understood what the P mode is for...

so it basically makes it a point and shoot? I don't get it. So you don't choose neither shutter or aperture? how about iso, etc?

Maybe I should try it out on my D300.

Nice capture on this fast mover Armando. I have to admit that Program Mode gets used on my D700 a lot with I'm around the fast moving grandsons.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

In program, at least with canon, you have the option to override the settings the camera chooses. Canon also has a Full Auto mode, which does not allow the user to override settings (I've always heard it refereed to as "idiot mode".

I'd guess Nikon has similar modes?

    Re: Program mode

    Thanks for the comments
just FYI, the lens used is the 18-200 VR @200mm F9 1/320 ISO 200

Cara is right , program mode will select a correct exposure, you can tweak it with the rear control wheel so it uses faster or slower speed, and will adjust the aperture accordingly,
it will show P* on the top display to indicate it is not the "default" P mode.

Cara, there is no full auto mode on the D300 , I had it on the D40

Liban , P mode keeps your ISO settings, focus settings, it just starts with a good aperture and speed selection.

Also forgot to mention. This was a very well captured image!
