I was out early this morning and it was very overcast, I had to shoot this one at 1600 iso and I could still only use a shutter speed of 90.

First time I saw one of these I had a hard time getting the ID, the way this bird acts made me look in the wrong section of my bird book. It doesn't seem to fit in the family it is in.

    Bad Owls

Scanned this from a bad print, but thought I'd get an ID, please swami. The first and only wild owl I've photographed...

I knew the owl species BEFORE seeing the image

This is a BARRED OWL. They are the most abbundant of the large owls and easiest owl to find in your area ;)

They are a bit rare in NJ, but I have seen plenty(hard to photograph though because they are usually on PROTECTED FEDERAL LAND)

The zoo image appears to be a western screech owl, but I am not 100% sure.

I am pretty sure this is a first winter savannah sparrow, but juvenile sparrows are hard

black capped chickadee and a BLACK AND WHITE WARBLER ;)

Why do you think the BWWA is un- wood warbler like? Sure it is one in the US in it's genus, but it warbles, eats insects and is like no other family of bird

The way they go up and down the trees I thought it was some type of nuthatch or creeper.

A normal day in the life for these little guys. They were too busy to be bothered by me and my little point and shoot digital.

You think so, I was thinking it was a Palm Warbler. Dark head and line through the eye.

    You think so,.......

Your right..... under closer observation I see a slight wingbar. The clean chest is palm like, but some young common yellowthroats are cleaner chested. the eye line is also a trait of the yellowthroat , as is the dark head.

I have seen very few young PALM warblers, but they are traveling through here and there in the last week ;)

Here's another shot of that bird that shows the head a bit better, I didn't post this one since it wasn't as sharp.

Me neither - you're the bird nerd !
We're still clearing my Dad's house, and he died nearly a year ago, but I know there's the Oxford book of birds in there.
I'll go check when I get back from Spain (work) and Belgium (pleasure) before we go over to Germany for the DTM season final race at Hockenheim.

    Sounds good!

I am fairly sure of the ID, but european thrush type birds I have never seen, so I only have web images or books to go by ;)
