Bad exposure/poor quality got you. That's a kingfisher with the GBH. Look again and I'm sure you'll see it.

I didn't have a clue what the last one was!

Canon 200mm/f2.8 - the lens I sold and never should have. :o I miss it.

Handheld - I was able to lean on a telephone pole. The closeups are crops.

Story that goes with this one. I was on the phone and I glanced out my window - and there perched on the Hollyberry tree was a hawk. I knew if he saw me, he would probably bolt. I quietly grabbed my camera, put on the long lens and slowly opened the window - then the screen. As soon as I opened the screen, Molly the Cat must have seen the bird. She immediately tried to get in the open window, so I had to close the screen. So here I was, camera in very shakey hands - trying to hold Molly back, stay quiet and snap some pictures before the hawk took off. I was able to get about 7-8 photos before he flew away. However, they are quite soft - probably from camera shake with all the commotion - and I shot them on "auto" because I had no time to play around with settings. Also - I think these were shot through the screen.

I included Molly the Culprit. Altho she probably would have been the victim.

Liz, I actually got 2 wrong. Not to make excuses, but they were distant bird images and nobody is perfect anyway ;)

The bird on the pole is a redtailed hawk and the holly bird is either a cooper's or sharp shinned hawk.

I will go with cooper's hawk due to heavy body(though fluffed up) and head position.

I am 99% sure about the cooper's hawk ID as the tip of the tail, nape of the neck and a few other suttle differences are all that seperates a perched cooper's from a perched sharp shinned :) FLIGHT images are much easier, but still a very hard ID ;)

Flamingos obviously, but which I don't know off the top of my head

the second looks like a Gruccione Bee eater, but I am not too sure ;)

The third looks similiar to a young catbird in a way, but no zoo would have that..... GOT ME ON THIS ONE!!!!!!!

Last are blue and gold macaws

    correct you are!!!!

Hyacinth macaws , as with most macaws, are HIGHLY ENDANGERED in the wild due to the pet trade.

I just searched the web and found a pair in oklahoma for only $22k if anyone is interested ;)

A couple shots from today, I think I have them both figured out. I have more problems with yellow birds and the second bird I know I've never seen it before but then I'm pretty new at this.
