Cool! Thanks Paul. The goose pic is taken at the petting zoo near us, which also has other exotic animals...so that explains it. :)

And yay...I was right on the cowbird!

Well here's my contribution. Not my best for sure. I've completely overexposed the post but I saw these little birds and couldn't resist trying to get a shot of them despite not being able to get close to them. Not sure what species they are but perhaps someone can identify them. Shot at 300mm at a park in Simi Valley, Ca.

The second is just a plain old seagull shot at Leo Carrillo Beach near Malibu, which I had posted before on another thread.

Canon DRebel, Sigma 70-300 for both shot.

I'm guessing the first one is a bluebird. But I'm not a bird expert...

are you and Paul sure? I've seen bluebirds before and they are larger than this bird. This bird is a only smidgen larger than a wren. Not to mention that that the bluebirds I've seen around here don't have the brownish-red breast.

    Hey Lava Lamp
I loved your osprey pic. The image looked to me like it would benefit from a run through Neat Image. I hope you dont mind I tried it out with the basic settings.

    Take Care,

Okay, I just looked it up and you're all correct...it is a western bluebird. Now I'm gonna have try to get a picture of that other bird tomorrow just so you can see what I am confusing it with.

COOL. I love the way you captured the mourning dove with it's eyes closed(with the male house sparrow in the BG)

I too went out yesterday to shoot a bird for this thread, but I am having trouble color correcting it :(

    YESTERDAY's image
I went out yesterday to find a new species for the post....

I HEARD a eastern kingbird that was odd sounding , so I went and found this one who BTW fledged (went back today and it wasn't in the nest anymore) since I took this image at NOON THURSDAY

The lighting was " yucky " and the mixed lighting fooled my auto WB , but I think I got a half way decent image for web use atleast

This photo was posted about 1.5 years ago in the critique section. I don't know who came up with the ID last time (which I have since forgotten!).

This species is the answer to THIS question

Q: What is the bird that ONLY lives in the south pole?

    A: SHEATHBILL ;)

I do believe it's a snowy sheathbill a distant relative of gulls and shuas ;)

GREAT image, as you are the only person I have known of that knew what one was(unless it was not me who ID 'd it.. which I think is what happened) ;)

    VERY frustrating.

Poor PJ. We take all kinds of crap off each other, but we can't stand for our favorite website to have problems...

More Birds For The Bird Man
First one is too easy, but hey, I figured they shouldn't all be tough. (And I know what this one is)

Second one is a two for one shot. And we want both birds. (I know what they are BTW).

Third and fourth shots are of the same bird. It was shaking it's head on the last one.

    Some Tougher Ones? Maybe?
I took these at the SC Aquarium in Charleston.

I don't remember if the first and second one are the same bird. They were taken sequentially. These are tough because of the lighting contrast for the first one, and not being able to see most of the bird in the second one.

The third one should be easy for you.

The folks at the Aquarium were excited about the fourth one. He was taken in as an injured bird. They tried to rehabilitate him, but he wouldn't eat. When he was to the point that they were going to put him down, their bird guy decided to try one last time. He started eating, and has done quite well since then.

    Hope you enjoyed these buddy!
