Photoshop CS

Don't know if I should have posted this on one of the digital forums but I find I've had the best luck with responses here. I just bought a Canon 10D and was wondering if I should get Photoshop CS. I have Photoshop Elements that came with the camera, I also have Photoshop 6 that I picked up used and I'm not sure if it is a legal copy or not so don't know if I could buy the upgrade from Adobe. I saw a link on another forum that goes to a special offer from Adobe that will let you get a full version of CS for $299 if you have the serial number from elements . A few people on the other forum say they have received and used the disc and it is the full version, I haven't yet shot in Raw with my camera but have read that CS is a better program for that. Any opinions will be helpful.

I used that 299 sale when I got my Mac. It is the full version just as you would buy it in a store. It is definitely worth it. I had to use Photoshop Elements last weekend and found the differences between the two programs to be enormous. CS does have RAW capabilities that you don't get with Elements but it also has 100s of extra features that make it worth it every day to me.

...but the real questions are, are you going to need or take advantage of all the advanced tools and features Photoshop has to offer? And more importantly, do you want to make the considerable investment in time and energy to learn the much more complicated CS?

It really all depends on what you want to do with your photography; how much editing and color control you want and if you want to create large prints.

If you take snaps and share them on the web, save your money. Raw file capability alone is not enough of a reason to go with CS. But if you truely want to experience the freedom and creativity of a complete digital darkroom limited only by your imagination, well then, the deal you describe is a STEAL for the full version program.

Just don't be shy about posting any questions about using the darn thing when you get it. There wil be plenty. Oh, and yes, the Digital Imaging Forum is really the place to ask them...

dh just bought this for me. He was going to surprise me, but couldn't keep quiet long enough. The ability to create actions is something I'm really looking forward to. I read somewhere you can do that in Elements, but if you can, I haven't figured it out yet.

That's great news! Personally, I'm not a man of "action", but there are a lot of others here that use them, so if you need any help, don't hesitate to ask.

BTW, how does your SO feel about you always referring to him as a DUMB HUSBAND?

As far as actions, I want to be able to set up my conversions, and have it be only one or two steps and some tweaking, as opposed to 15 steps.
