    Parker Returns

Parker came home last Friday. He is a lucky kitty. He had some sort of infection in his chest and I don't think he would have lived without a bunch of medical treatment. He's on two types of antibiotics and he's very, very bony. He's also being very picky about food and I've mostly been hand-feeding him canned tuna - the little bastard!

But I'm very happy to have him home. And he's happy to be home. Soupy, the other kitty, who was crying the whole time he was gone, is ignoring Parker now. Things are back to normal - sort of. I'm still very worried about the little guy and I'm watching him closely. But it does seem like everything is going to be ok.

The shaved spot is from where they stuck him to draw fluid out of his chest. They pulled 250cc's of fluid out of him. It was compressing his lungs and making it hard for him to breathe - on top of the fever and pain he must have had from the infection.

Thanks for all of you who were so positive and hopeful last week. It was a rough week. Here's a link to that thread: Parker Buddy

Awesome news....!!! Animals are like children so it's very emotional when they are in pain. Thanks for sharing the good news.

HOORAY for Parker! Wow! This is great news, John. I'm really happy for Parker, Soupy - and of course, you. He looks good considering all that he has been through. Sorry he's making you work so hard to get him to eat. I hope his appetite improves quickly.

I'm sure you know that Soupy is just being a normal cat by not giving Parker a big welcome. My two get along well, but when Jeremy comes home from the vet, Molly gets right in his face and hisses. However, she soon gets back to normal.

Good luck - and I'll keep Parker in my prayers. I hope you're giving him some treats.

He always looks like that. He's a very serious little guy. And this was taken on Friday, right after I got him home. He had to put up with the camera in his face a whole bunch.

They aren't actually sure what caused the infection - but you were right. But the antibiotics and draining the cavity seems to have had the desired effect. Hopefully he'll be ok.

    Re: Parker Returns

John that's awesome news! I am really happy for Parker, you, and Soupy! Sounds like things are getting better and back to normal?!

I wanted you to know that there was a large group of people who contacted me about contributing to Parker's bills. I would like to report that people really rose to the occasion and wished to show you some love!

Nothing was collected, out of respect for your wishes, but the donation to the SCPA or another similar organization is a great idea!

I'm glad he's home and on the mend. I was out of town (8 states/ 2 Nat'l Parks/ No Kids) during the crisis. I have a cat who has been seriously ill twice...it's stressful and worrisome! I'm a big cat lover - we have 10 spade/neutered cats that we have 'acquired'. Good thing we are in the sticks and not the city!

    Re: Parker Returns

Good to see Parker is home !

Our Loseley cat is also shaven - under the chin.
Friday evening she swelled up like a hamster (or like she ate one?) and seemed to be running a temperature, hot paws, warm head, and firm but softish lumps under each side of the jaw.
The emergency vet said it didn't sound serious, and to call back if she got worse and they'd open up, but going to our vet in the morning ought to be OK.

By the time I got home the cat was sitting rather unhappy on the back of Angie's chair and uncharcteristically inactive. However she did wake up when the special chinese fried rice arrived, becuase she always gets the prawns and little pieces of chicken. If she was well enough to eat, and try to snag bits off my fork, and go head first into the dish to clean it, she was probably well enough to last the night

Of course Saturday morning Angie is off the the GP Masters qualifying at Silverstone to get driver signatures, while I have to find the cat (she's gone outside to sleep) and get her in the basket to visit the vet. Half an hour later her furriness deigns to turn up and we're off for the 300 yard stroll to the vet.

Turns out it's not swollen glands, but two huge abcesses which have to be lanced and sluiced. What a smell I don't know which is worst, the mess that comes out, or watching the vet squirt a syringe of antiseptic/antibiotic in each side and sluice out the jaw I was amazed that the vet escaped unharmed, but the cat didn't go for her tormentor at all, just stood there and took the tratment, even to the two injections, without a single meep.

Good news is she came straight home, and has been pottering about the house causing mayhem, or sleeping in her usual spots in the garden. Bad news is that she probably has to go back in this week for follow-up as the swelling is continuing on one side at a lesser level despite antibiotics.

Also she's so old that the vet doesn't want to use anaesthetic and investigate the cause, so we only think it's tooth root abcesses. We know she would have had a GA and scale and clean, possibly an extraction, so it's almost certain that it's tooth related ... poor puss !

I'm so glad that Parker is back where he belongs.
