    Parker Buddy

My little buddy, Parker, isn't doing so well. He had to go in to the emergency room yesterday and he was back at the vet today. And now he's spending the night there. They aren't sure yet what's wrong, but whatever it is, it's not good. He's lost a lot of weight in the past week or so and he won't eat or drink.

He's a special little guy. He was a stray and it was obvious that someone had been very mean to him. He would flinch when you tried to pet him and he has always been very skinny and nervous. He's pretty much scared of everyone but me although he's learned to like Photo Dad, as you can see in the one photo. He's very, very affectionate with me and just wants to be loved. I hate to see him suffer.

Think good thoughts for the little guy..

    Re: Parker Buddy

    John,

I'm so sorry to hear about Parker. He's a beautiful cat. I'll say a prayer that the vet finds out what the problem is, and that it's something simple and curable.

I know how you feel as when Molly or Jeremy get sick or have a problem, we get upset around here. Cats are wonderful and they seem to understand us too, more than we give them credit for. They know when we're upset - and they also try to help us out.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Do you have another cat? I thought I remembered two. I hope you soon get some better news.

    Liz

    Hey PJ,

I'll keep you and Parker in my thoughts and prayers. Having recently lost my camera-shy pooch, Rocky, I can honestly say that I don't want anyone to have to go through that.

Let's all keep our thoughs positive!

Yeah, Parker is my other cat. Most people who visit never see him because he hides. Soupy loves everyone and can't get enough. Everyone loves Soupy because he's so social, fat, and happy. But Parker had a rough life (at least before he came to me) and is very sensitive. He craves affection, but only from a few, select people.

Here's a recent picture of Soupy enjoying a dirt bath. Both of these guys are over ten years old.

    Hey John,

I hope the best for Parker. Having pets I know the emotional attachment that comes with having pet like Parker. It's too bad that his early days were spent with somebody mean. Luckily he found you.

Let us know how it goes, and I hope that he gets better!!!

i just crack up everytime I see that picture of you and Parker. You both have the EXACT same expression on your faces, LOL.

I hate to hear of good pets feeling bad. Hope the vets are able to help him get better.

The news is they don't know what's wrong. He's got some sort of mass in his chest. They found that in an xray, yesterday. Tomorrow he gets ultrasound to find out what it is. Then we know if anything can be done. They say he hasn't really improved, although he did eat a little this morning. That's good, because I could only get him to eat off my finger. I haven't been able to visit him, but I will in the morning.

I don't know if Soupy misses Parker. He does seem extra talkative. I'm sure he misses Parker's food, which he would eat every morning, after he finished his own

    Re: Parker Buddy

    John,

That's really tough. I'll keep praying that it's not as serious as it seems, not knowing.

My two cats, Jeremy and Molly, aren't always super-friendly, but they don't hurt each other. However, when Jeremy is at the vets (he has gotten sick a few times), Molly does look for him. She is always happy to see him return. I think they really do miss the presence of one another. One time Molly started "talking" perpetually, pacing up and down and wouldn't be quiet. It ended up that Jeremy was locked in my office - and she was trying to tell me.

Maybe Soupy is trying to tell you Parker isn't around. You never know!

I feel for the two of you, PJ.

Our mother cat, Loseley, has made it to 23 and while no danger to the neighbourhood mice (lack of teeth) still rules the garden with an iron paw. No other cat will touch her, few cross her path.
Her two tomcat kittens we kept, one we lost to a car, and one we suspect to a stroke with paralysis of the rear legs. The rescue kitten, a long thin streak of puss, blew up like a balloon one christmas and they had no cure.

    Fingers crossed for you, both.

Holy cow! That's an ancient cat. My mom has a cat that must be about 20 now. She's still a cold-blooded murderer, regularly delivering "gifts." So maybe Parker will get lcuk and we'll fix him up as good as new. Thanks for the hope.

    Re: Parker Buddy

One of my cats made it to about 20. It was a stray we picked up from the junkyard after our car got hit when I was probably 3. The guys at the yard said if we could catch a kitten we could have it since they had a bunch, and we got one

Sadly, he died a few months before I got home from Alabama.

It sounds like your cat had a positive life changing event when it met you, he can't ask for anything more. My thoughts are with you & your cat

You can always ask and hope for more. But you should be grateful for what you have and have had. But you're right. His life since we took him in has been very good. And I feel very grateful to have been able to provide him with a safe, loving place to live.

John, that's really a great post.

Our vet sent us a card after we had to put a dog down several years ago. I can't remember exactly what it said but it was along those lines. Now I wish I would have kept it but at the time I couldn't look at it anymore.

We felt the same about little Rincewind. He was a tiny kitten, runt of a litter and rescued by the neighbour. When I got to see him he was hiding behind the furniture, but winked at me when they moved the bedside cabinet playing find hte kitty.
We had him for five happy years, a loving cat with a LOUD voice if left alone. Just at he top of the stairs and wanting attention he managed to get sister-in-law on the phone to ask what we were doing to the cat ! We just said he was upsatirs and we weren't giving him the attention he wanted

We remember the happy times. The funny moments (many). And the dribbling on our faces at 3am when he got happy just being on our pillows with his people.
