    Paris Chinese New Year

This year’s Chinese New Year parade was special for me. My current client is in the heart of Paris Chinatown. Lunchtime in the local restaurants is an adventure with lots of things to try in the midst of a noisy crowd where you don’t understand a word of what is being said.

I realized this year that the Parade is different. Most of the participants are teenagers from the neighborhood and their friends. They are all “French”. Conversation:

Me: “OK this year I’m trying to take photos of beautiful Chinese girls. Euuhh.. do your parents come from China?”

Reply: “Cambodia” “Laos” “Vietnam” “Algeria” “Portugal” “Normandy” “Senegal” etc..

All picture D300 + 16-85VR. I used the SB800 flash sometimes to put more light on the faces

Great series , it doesn't look like the light was that good but even still the colours stand out . The first shot seems to be the odd one out, so I take it that the Chinese new year was enthusiastically celebrated by non asians as well. Any excuse for a party...

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

Nice series, Charles. I always wonder what the meaning of things are when they show the Chinese new years parades on tv. All those colors are mind boggling.

    Re: Paris Chinese New Year

Thanks for the comments. Yes the light was rotten - typical Paris canyon light from above. This is why I used the flash to fill in the faces.

Here are a few more. Look closely...

Each year I say to myself "I must do more pictures of the beautiful Chinese girls" and then I get fascinated by the community thing.

Great colors and subjects. Most of the girls looked very pretty but you do have a few mixed in there that I would have to give a thumbs down to, LOL Jeff
