    Commercial / Landscape Photo

I was asked to do some photography for the health club that my family belongs to in exchange for club dues.

The signature part of the club is the garden atrium, and my first project was to capture several views.

The shots was very hard because there was so much glass around the top, sides, and door level that it was impossible to not have any hot spots. When there is a cloudy/foggy day I plan to go back so I can get the perfectly even lighting.

What I did was exposed for the bright spots, and then exposed a frame to accurately expose the shady spot. 2 seconds @ f/16 and 1/30 @ f/16 for the bright spot. I used a L-558 spot meter to pin point my exposure. I then layered and masked the two shots together.

This is my first of ten assignments for the club so I am excited to have future tear sheets and commercial print examples for my portfolio.

    Main Atrium Shot

Here is the main atrium shot.. as you can see the hot spots from the windows are distracting, but overall the shot will work until the right conditions exist.

Nice work but I agree that an overcast day would help - or maybe in the early morning/evening. Haven't "seen" you around in awhile, hope all is well.

    Hi Penny,
Actually this opporotunity came about when I was unemployed. I told them I had to cancel because I couldn't afford the dues. Because I had mentioned that I did photography and had a website, they took a look and asked me to do photography for them. The previous photographer wanted $250/hour, and that was too much for them. I offered to do it for $150/hour which is the same as the monthly due. So I am paid up for the next year and half.

This was one of the positive things that came out of my unemployment period.

I hope the very best for you.

And a great use of your photoshop skills.

Now what camera/lens/flash did you use?

I seem to recall something about you using a Canon thingy, but that's all. ;-)

    Congratulations Loren!

Now that's a good deal! Looks like a really nice health club from your photos. The composition, color and contrast are great. It had to be a challenge to work around the obstacles, but as always, you did a great job. I'd be interested in seeing the images on a cloudy day.
