I do believe this very well may be the same juvenile redtailed hawk from last week, but it was 3 miles away from the original sighting.

Blown out skys never bother me when you are looking at such a beautiful animal.


I went out with the naturalist that I volunteer with, to do an "Eagle Watch". This time all we saw on the nest was a juvi, but it had lost all of its down and looked ready to fledge. We did see one adult, but he/she just did a quick fly over, about 15 feet right over our heads! That was soooo cool!

15 FEET ABOVE YOUR HEAD...... OH I HATE YOU The closest I've been to bald/ golden eagles is maybe 50 feet over my head(in thousands of hours of migration watching), but I have been nearly scarred for life by a GOSHAWK I found nesting ;) Mind you in any give year one or two pairs nest in NJ and they ATTACK intruders !

I also got images of northern water snakes copulating I will see what I can pull out of the files I shot this week.

Nice shot Paul. How do you get so close? I've got these hawks all over the place in my neck of the woods, but I can't get close even with my 400. Maybe you should teach a course on bird photography-I'd go

Secondly,

Hawks are VERY leery of human in general, so I feel that this hawk is most likely a rehab'd bird from the local raptor rehab.

It was hunting from the sign when we drove up at a crawl. Once I leaned over Michelle to get my first few shots (using her as a tripod in the process) , I gave a few pishes(tufted titmouse distress call) and it started to turn towards me. I grabbed a few while it turned around(he was facing the other way)

It is WILD , but I think it has WRONGLY come to the conclusion that people aren't scary.

Yeah, the BG sucks, but the hawk itself is magnificent!

Hey Paul when i suggested, in another of your Hawk post, I meant to get another picture that had a nice sky and then ad the bird to it.

I took these shots of a couple of Osprey a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't get closer to the one in the tree unless I had a boat, it was on an island. The other flew by but it was high in the sky and that was all the picture was a sky and a little bird. So I added the flying bird over the perched bird. I would never try to pass this off as an actual photo and when I've shown it to people I tell them right off that it is a composite of two shots.

Hey!!!

On march 30th I found found a ADULT BALD EAGLE ON TERRITORY at lower(little?) swartswood lake behind the church in the dead trees. You might want to keep your eye out for a possible nesting pair? A lot of bald eagle nests have popped up this year, though most have failed for different reasons. To actually know the location of them requires seeing them or knowing somebody though.

REMEMBER to NEVER scare an eagle off the nest in our area though

Those Osprey were over at Swartswood lake, around the back near where the old mill is. The one in the tree was calling out that is how I found it, don't know if it was a young bird calling out to mom or maybe calling for a mate. I watched it for about a half an hour hoping it would dive down into the lake for a fish, but it left around the back side of the island so I didn't even get a picture of it flying off.
