Maybe I should post this in 'off-topic' but I want to share and figured more would see it here.
I was adopted. Known it since early youth...probably 3. Never bothered me. Never seriously considered searching for parents.
I have two birth certificates...one is the original which we aren't supposed to have but do for some unknown reason. It lists me as Baby-Boy Wickre and has my birth mother's name on it.
Sometime in the 80s there was a lot going on about adoptee rights and trying to reunite relatives. I got a little interested and tried to search through a couple of organizations...no computer then....had no luck.
Then several years ago...probably close to 10 I got a burr in my bonnet and googled the mothers name. Got several hits but only one that would have been about the right age. The rest were way too young.
So I got an address and sent a letter describing my birth circumstances and asking if she might be my mother. Said I didn't want anything except to tell her it was ok and I'd had a decent life and if she didn't want to make contact that was fine but I would like to know any medical isssues that I may want to pass on to my children. Never received a reply and pretty much forgot about it.
A few days ago, I got a message on facebook thatg said, "I may be your half sister"
I was suspicious of such a message and said,"what makes you think so" She sent back a message saying she had found this letter when going through some of her mother's things and described enough of the letter for me to know she was legit.
At 66, I, all of a sudden, have a half sister I never knew about. The mother is gone but I have a sister now. We have made initial contact and it appears we both will have lots of questions. Pretty cool, eh. I'm going to break the law and post her facebook pic As you can see, there is no family resemblance. She is much better looking than I.
