I shoot Canon, but I think we should stay away from Canon Ninjas, b/c it's kinda like we're just Nikon Samurai wannabes.

I like the Clan O'Canon theme - and since my heritage is Scottish and among the clans I like it even more. We could actually be the Canon Reivers (pronounced ree' vurs) - Reivers were border people - they lie, cheated, and (mostly) stole to keep their clan's land along the border - BUT - whenever there was a fight to be had with the English - the Reivers were always the first to be called upon and the first to stand up.

    YIKES! Flash from Flashram........
Ninja were very stealthy people, but according to what I have read over many many years, were under the guidance of Samurai.

NO WAY! We can't begin with such a reputation! Think Everyone. Think! :p

Samurai was much higher placed in the pecking order of Combatants than Ninja were. Ninja were very stealthy people, but according to what I have read over many many years, were under the guidance of Samurai.

Okay, okay. I was just being silly with the Ninja thing. I was a few beers into a six pack of an excellent Humboldt County brown ale and it seemed at least slightly humorous at the time. I really don't care what Canon user call themselves or each other. But as a line of goofy banter, I figure, why not?
And to mix seriousness with the humor: We Canon users need no name. I mean, "Canon" is good enough, eh? "I shoot Canon" sounds a lot more warlike than "I shoot Nikon." I mean, who knows what a "Nikon" is anyway? Can you shoot one? And yes, "canon" is not how it's spelled, but close enough. I'm sure this puts a whole new spin on this, but what the hey, as long as it adds to the confusion, I'm happy. ;)

I actually like Clan O'Cannon. Those who are not immersely educated in Japanese feudal history would merely think that ninjas were just wannabe samurais

Individual gear forums would just splinter the whole group into three pieces - Nikon, Canon, and other. Maybe they would be useful to the Nikon and Canon users, but the rest of us would be a third wheel, since there are groups of 1 to 4 active people on the board for each brand that begins with neither a C or an N. General discussion would migrate a bit to those brand specific spots, leaving the rest of us in the cold. Axle and I would be playing pong in some distant "other" board.

    Paulnj,
All I have is a 12 gauge, but I am sure it'll get the job done. ;)

Unnecessarily large and overweight weapons? Yeah, sounds like a Canon! :D And a Nikon for that matter...

I am just feeling smug today, as I am about 2 months away from a Pentax 31 Limited. Yeah, you people wouldn't understand. :p

But I'd also be worried that they'd take away from the exiting forums. That's not necessarily the case. But it could happen. I'd actually like to have manufacturer-specific forums, if we can support them. But if they're going to be empty, then I'd rather not.

Maybe the best thing to do, is if you're interested in having a Canon or Nikon club here, just get it started on your own - informally. When you can come to me and tell me that you have a bunch of participants, I'll start thinking about creating a special forum for you. Does that sound ok?

I think Billingham bags are wonderful and if we're going to have manufacturer-specific forums then there should be one for Billingham bag fans.

Sound silly? Well if we split into camera manufacturer forums then I'm going to have a problem because I shoot Nikon, Hasselblad, Olympus, Konica, Leica, plus I have a Canon printer, a Minolta enlarger etc.

    You poor, poor people.

All this talk, and still no identity.

What I would give to make you see the light...

It's much simpler over here. Join the Samurai.

Our legend is robust, our heritage is stout.

Our pride is legendary. Our history well known.

    Become a Nikon Samurai.

I promise, all the confusion will go away.

    Nikon Samurai #4

Not everyone starts with Nikon. But it's never too late to join.

PENTAX 31 LIMITED!!! EVEN us Nikon/ Canon guys can understand QUALITY OPTICS!!!!!!

BTW.... a 50BMG in my hands can splinter a 12 gauge's stock at 1000 YARDS!!!

But a gun is no more than a tool ....... who cares what size your hammer is or how big your car is if it gets the job done ;)

AH , but I assure you that NINJAS are NOT EXTINCT.

I know a guy who is a MASTER at the art of ninjitsu, holds a 3rd degree in karate, a 2nd in jujitsu and a few others too. He is a BAIL BONDSMAN who WAS a special forces Marine in the early 80's.

You do not want this 6' 0" 240lbs guy to knock on your door ;) or worse..... snap your neck before you know he's there .

    I beg to differ...

I am one of the 13 (?) LAST SAMURAI here on earth.

We are few, but we are proud.

The Samurai have evolved from our former violent ways. Forced underground a milenia ago, we decided to arise recently to help make the world a better place, defending the weak, and fighting injustice wherever it stood. Trading in our swords, we decided to shun the firearms adopted by todays soldiers and instead have decided to shoot things using the best photography equipment available - the Nikon system.

Whether they shoot with film or digital or both, the Nikon Samurai have taken a vow to protect the people of earth (from each other) and restore balance to the cosmos.

    All, using a Nikon camera.
