    A natural light portrait

Lots of other folks have posted portraits with natural lighting so I thought I would give it a shot. This is a Sea Gull from today. LOL, Jeff

I used my Nikon D90 with a Sigma 135-400mm Zoom

Paula, thanks for taking a look and leaving a reply. I liked it but it seems like most lookers didn't even think it warranted a comment. Thanks again Paula, Jeff

    Re: A natural light portrait

I saw it this morning but was rather rushed for time, Jeff.
I think the skin tones need some work

That sky background works really nice for this gull shot. Clouds would have been distracting.
It is a nice gull portrait and that we don't see something like this every day, makes it all the more interesting.
    Keep Shooting!

    Jeff,

This is a very nice image. The colors are beautiful. I agree with Frog about the nice simple background.

Jeff, I really need to tell you that I'm sorry I didn't reply to your post - because when I saw it, I intended to reply - then became distracted and in a hurry, and then forgot. But it doesn't take away from the image or the fact that I noticed it.

Actually I enjoy viewing your images when I see them. I don't get a lot of time to come around, but lately I've had some more time and hopefully this will continue. I also have to make more of a conscious effort to take the time to reply more often to the other members' photos. I used to do that when I had more time. So this tells me to make the effort.

Ah, good. Now I don't feel like the Lone Ranger.

Its a great shot. Pose, sharpness, processing choices... all right on. I hope you made him/her sign a release.

    Great detail and beautiful colors

Amazingly small dof! the beak and eye are sharp , but the side of the head is starting to get blurry

I've, as well, found myself discouraged when posting an image, seeing over 20 views and sometimes no comments, seems that only a handful of people take the time to write something, which maybe good, usually the comments are right on , and very informative.

That's what I was saying. You find yourself wondering what those non-commenters thought. Did they think the work wasn't good enough to bother commenting on? Did they feel there was nothing to critique? It's nice when people offer their thoughts, positive or critical - much more helpful than nothing at all.

    Re: A natural light portrait

Thanks everyone for your comments. I myself get caught up in just looking and not posting comments like I should. It just makes me wonder when a lot of people take a look and don't comment if they just don't want to hurt my feeling about what they want to say about my photo. I would rather have a comment, good or bad, and at least know what you think than wonder why there are no replies. I will also try and do better myself, thanks again, Jeff

Very nice, Jeff. Good detail, sharpness and a nice simple pleasing background. Like it much.
As for views, we have to keep in mind that the number of views are added up not just from the members here that we know and who participate actively, but also alot from non members and persons just dropping in from hits on the search engines, etc.

Nice focus on head and Beak that can't have been easy at 400mm, was this hand held ?
    Pete

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

I have no issues with you editing my photos

Yes it was hand held and the lens does not have any stabilization with it, Jeff
