    my first BEE capturing!

Was wandering around the Arnold Arboretum in JP yesterday evening, and my friend saw this little bee so I thought I'd try to capture it. It was a pretty fun experience, and here's the best of the few pics I grabbed...

Thought I'd share it with everyone!

    In flight

Nice to see it buzzing in mid-air. That's much tougher than shooting the bee sitting on the flower. Looks like you needed more dof or a faster shutter speed, not sure which. But it's way better than any bug pictures I've taken.

That's pretty good.. My wife chased a pair of butterflies around the park one day. It was pretty funny, bugs fly so irradic that its difficult to predict where they are going to be and to focus on. She got two clear shots, but the backgrounds were terrible and they were head on so all you saw were two lines for wings.

Thanks all for the cool feedback.... here's the shot info:

    iso 800
    f-stop 6.3
    time 1/250

    oh, and manual focus!!

As for the shot - it was beginner's luck! But now I'm thinking of trying again... it was a lot of fun!

    one more thing

Also, look at his antennae are touching the flower! That's what made this one stand out from the rest of them, to me. And he was also a lazy little bee... kept hanging around this flower group for about 20 sec, so i had some time for a few rapid-fire shots!

    Cheers

Okay, you and I both know that this photo isn't the greatest photo in the world. But it looks like we do both know how much fun and challenging it can be to capture this subject

I hope that doesn't come across the wrong way! I have a huge appreciation for how hard it is to capture a moving bee and have it in focus and framed correctly. I'm trying to compliment the photographer.

    Great shot

    There may be hope

Stew, there may be help for you yet. You are really branching out with you choice of subjects. I like your bee, they are tough little characters to capture, but I love trying. Lots of fun hanging around the flower garden looking for a shot of these guys. One of the things I love about photography is the many, many forms it takes. Regardless of your interest or passions you can find a way to incorporate photography. I enjoy just mixing it up and trying a little of everything. Thanks for your post.

It's definitely not the greatest shot, but it was my first one of this type and it was so much fun i simply had to post! And isn't that what Viewfinder is all about!?!

    Thanks for your time...

    OT,

Yes, moving in your direction, eh? Maybe I'm coming out of my funk now that Spring is here and there's finally something to look at in the city besides metal structures and hibernating trees. I have to admit it was a very exciting, and rewarding experience to be out in the arboretum that evening. My friend and I were laughing pretty hard as she was directing me to photograph the bee from this direction or that direction... we had a good time with the camera and that's what counts.
