    More Lightning Shots

I don't think any of these are as good as the one I got a few weeks ago, but I got alot more of them. These were taken Friday night, some before midnight, some after. I still have quite a few files that I haven't even opened yet, so more may be posted once I get back from Jersey.
    Thanks for looking!!

Awesome. I still don't know how you people get lightning shots! (some of it might also be that Austin doesn't get lightning... at all...) If you don't mind divulging, what settings did you use on the camera? Thanks.

    Thanks for the kinds words!!

Much appreciated!! You can find the settings I used on this post:

    Big Storm...Big Lightning

Now, some of these were taken with slightly different settings, such as when I saw that some of the lightning was gettig blown out (like the last one), so instead of my usual f/8, I went to f/10 or f/11, and kept the same shutter speed. But I also adjusted that around, sometimes 20 seconds, sometimes 15 seconds. This is what is cool about digital with lightning shots, you can see the results, and adjust as needed. Don't waste any film either!!

Stealing my thunder again! I got my latest slides from ASAP on friday. A few shots were of the Venus transit, but most were of lightning. And before I can post them, you've upstaged me again! ;-)

Just for that, I'm not going to post mine!

Great shots! You guys get some HUGE lightning bolts out there!

Now excuse me while I go pout...

These are GREAT shots! I can't believe more people haven't commented on them yet. I will definitely check out your link for your settings. Please post more lightning when you get them. We probably won't get any lightning here until fall or, perchance, a summer storm comes along. I tried taking some lightning shots last year with my Nikon CP5000 and totally flubbed the attempt, so I admire what you were able to accomplish here.

    Oh yeah....

while I was there I saw the lightning that Jersey gets. ;) It was the rain that got me though. I haven't seen rain like that since I was living in Houston. On Wednesday I looked out and it was like a white/gray sheet coming down. You couldn't even see about 5 or 10 feet. It's slim to none that we get rain like that in CO.

    Thanks Robert....

We do get some huge bolts, that's for sure. I'm lucky though to live where I do right now. I live three floors up with a nice view to the east. I don't even have to leave the house to get these. .

Now stop pouting and post your shots!!!! ;)

    Thanks Ray...

your kind words, as always, are much apreciated!! Getting lightning shots is not difficult at all, infact, it's mostly luck and pointing the camera in the right direction at the right time. It's really all up to the Man upstairs with what you end up getting. I suspect you'll have a much better time with it now that you have the DRebel. Not that you can't get them with a P&S, just that I think the set-up will be much easier and the shots much cleaner.
