mechanical question - monopod to hotshoe

    Hi everyone!

I'm having 'one of those days', and I'm too tired to think. Anyway, I need some advice - I'm not very mechanical - even on good days.

I want to mount a hotshoe flash on a monopod. I have a general brand hotshoe/umbrella/lightstand mount, but I would like something like that on the standard size 1/4 monopod male thread.

I want a more portable side light, which my helper will be holding and moving around.

I will also be attaching a battery pack to the hotshoe flash/monopod.

I'd love some ideas for all of this! Any ideas on how to safely attach all of this?

    Thanks so much!

    Kathy

Re: mechanical question - monopod to hotshoe

How about one of these? In the center of the bottom of this bracket is a 1/4-20 threaded hole, same size as used on a monopod or tripod. Screw this onto the mono, then the flash clamps into this bracket. They're very secure - I'm sure the hotshoe would be the first thing to break, not this bracket - so just be as careful with it as you would with a flash mounted on a camera. I've done the "flash on a stick" thing as an assistant for a friend. He has more stuff that connects the two, but it's really not necessary.

As far as mounting the battery pack goes, I'm trying to remember how we did it. Last time I did it, we didn't use a Quantum with the flash on the mono. I think when I used it with a Quantum before, the cord might have been long enough that I wore the battery on a strap over my shoulder. I wouldn't want it mounted on the monopod due to the weight.

It looks PERFECT! THANKS SO MUCH!

Now I will look for a longer Quantum cord for a Canon 420ex & QB 1.

    THANKS AGAIN!!!!!
