Love the extra reach (1.5X) with digital...

    Long time no post!

Just bought a Nikon D70 and I love the long (1.5X) reach from my old Nikkor lens collection.

    I hear you!

1.5 crop factor may blow on the short end but my 200-400 Tamron became a 300-600 which is nice. Also my 50 mm macro is a 75 now and I like being a little further away, which now gets me thinking how nice the 90 mm 2.8 Tamron macro would become a sweet 135mm macro/portrait lens.....hmmmmmm........................... ;)

Nice shots by the way. The gorilla looks like he should be holding a Corona or something

    How about wide angle?

Do you love what it does with your wide angle lenses, too?

Talking You used your 2000th post to...

    Photojohn-

You used your 2,000th post to ask me about digital ruining the short end of the spectrum ;-} ?

Yes, my 18-35 becomes a pedestrian 27-52. However, I have not given up on film and will continue to use film for short/wide shooting.

Scooter, the gorilla did have a Corona in his hand but I asked him to set it down for this shot. BTW, did you hear about the guy attacked by chimps in CA??? ..the details are not pretty.

Trying thinking about what you want to say before you present it to the public.

It was the poor guys second post here and it came across some what unwelcoming the way John posted his reply. Original poster knows what the crop factor does to the short end. He dosen't need to be told or have his face rubbed in it in such a rude way. It wasn't even the point of his post. If it were my first or second post here and someone responded like that, I'd probably look elsewhere. I just expected more from "the captain of the ship" who claims to care about how comfortable people feel participating on this forum.
I did think before I posted it. But thanx for the advice.

John's question was innocent, although ambiguous. He wasn't friendly, but that doesn't mean he was being malicious either, he was simply succinct. Your reaction was brash and childish. Unless someone is CLEARLY attacking someone, the smart thing to do, the friendly thing to do, is to give them the benefit of the doubt. Assuming the worst was a bad idea in this case.

    Seb,
I do see your point and I may have jumped a little to soon. My point is John in my mind is the benchmark on this board for behavior (and hospitality even.) One shouldn't wonder as to his intent because, as you said it was very ambigous. I guess I interpreted his reply a certain way and it just irked me. Maybe John could have commented on the pictures or something a little more welcoming along with it. My apologies to John and you and Michael. I respect all of you guys and your contrbutions to this board. I don't want this turning into another long, pointless, non-phtographic thread. Thanx for your perspective on it Seb. Scooter.

Believe me, I've been in your shoes way too often, it's all good. Sometimes we misinterpret, it's the bane of communicating entirely through written words. I just hope John can ever forgive you, he used to be a communist drill sergeant in Russia and doesn't take kindly to being reprimanded...
