    Northern Lights Right now

Go out and take a look. They cover more than half the sky here.

    Re: Northern Lights Right now

I went back out with my Canon S30. Here are a few shots. They were all set to ISO 200 and the bright one was exposed for 15 sec in Tv and the darker ones at 4 sec in Tv.

This is something I should make an effort to see in person some day.

Thanks Chunk, Rhianna and I drove out and stared at them for a while. Beautiful.

Here's what they looked like by me

So beautiful, and eerie, and awesome. I had fun (shivering) outside taking these; unfortunately, my neighborhood isn't particularly photogenic, and I didn't feel like driving somewhere else to get better surroundings. So, ya get what ya get.

This last one is especially nice Kelly. I know what you mean about shivering. The feeling in my fingers gave out about the same time as my battery. Of course as I was driving back into town, the northern lights brightened and expanded. I grabbed this last one in my driveway.

Glad you got to see them. Did you take a camera?

No kidding! With my luck, I had shut off the computer probably an hour before you posted this... Haven't seen a display this big this far south!

    Re: Northern Lights Right now

The neatest thing about the Northern Lights is the way you see the light just blowing furiously across the sky. It's incredible.

And for a short time while I was watching, a very faraway gaggle of Canadian geese were honking furiously, the din blending into a solid stream of noise, which to my ears sounded like you could hear the roar of the lights blowing through the sky.
