    abstract- the geometry of lights

a detail from hanging cobalt blue lights against a yellow wall---cropped tightly--- and rotated 90 degrees CCW
a little soft (f/2.8 at 1/30th handheld) but I think it works for this piece...or does it ?

all comments and ideas for improvement welcome.

    Thanks

    Hey Natalie,
I like the smooth soft transition of colors and light in this abstract. I am glad you mentioned what it was because it sort of looks like a futuristic cobalt blue hypodermic needle being administered into a body. . . maybe I have a bizarre imagination, very creative as you usually are Nice

Well-composed and properly exposed, however to me this is so abstract as to almost look more like an illustration than a photo. The rotation has something to do with that look, but it's not just that. Even the glow coming off the light looks like it could have been done in Illustrator. Not a bad thing per se, just seems to lack photographic energy (if you know what I mean).

    Question does this help

here's the whole thing different shot but very close to the original ( I have no idea which one it is since I took a bunch of them--this one is actually better-lol) .... I increased the contrast which may have created some of the bizarro lighting...but as you can see it still does he same thing---there were three lights the positioning of the bulb gave them all weird lighting.

that it was a futuristic cobalt blue hypodermic needle being administered into a body and I felt that from the pic/angle alone--- that it conveyed that the needle was filled with a mutating protein laced with radiation that when injected caused humans to turn into giant pigeons.

    See,
this is what makes photography so difficult--- it's disgusting when people just don't get the shot...

you have a bizarre imagination indeed...I would appreciate unless you get it---you just spare us the critique ;) now---let me get back to making up ridiculous explanations to some other shots.....

I really like it. It makes me wonder what it is, it moves my eye through the frame, the colors and gradients are pleasing. Very good eye...

How to tell the most experienced shooter in a group? They have the least amount of toys on them.

Nat: I do like the second one more, as it feels "photo-like" to my eyes. It's all subjective of course, but I think when photographers re-orient things 90 degrees off-axis like that, it tends to throw people off sometimes.

In general, I wonder if the image might be more powerful, were there to be some texture on that wall in the background, or maybe on the lamp itself. I notice everything is very "smooth" (as noted earlier), which may have the effect of over-sanitizing the image visually. Not enough contrast other than the colors IOW.

Keep shooting some more of these types of shots and maybe we'll find the jackpot.

    thanks

this store is a compounding pharmacy (they adapt prescriptions to patient needs) and it's very funky fun edgy sort of place...more like a coffee house feel than a pharmacy.

their primary colors are brushed stainless steel and ,orangey yellow and a golden mustard color with cobalt blue...all the wood is a light pine...it's beautiful.

This place will provide oodles of shots with all of interesting lines and textures and they already gave me the o.k. to shoot everything and anything when ever-yeah...thnaks for looking

plus they said they'd be willing to display/sell some of my work as long as it's within reason (oh well no self portraits-HA HA)
