    Lensbaby Action!

Lensbabies in the house! A couple of Lensbabies showed up for me and Dollop yesterday. We've both got them on our 10Ds today and are blasting everything in site. I wouldn't say that I've got this thing figured out yet, but it's definitely fun experimenting

    Talking Hey John.......we're waiting!!!!!!!!!!!

    This is cool.

However, I'm wondering if some of my soft throw-aways would pass for a lensbaby pic - you know - I could call it "fine art."

Don't beat me up please! I'm joking......but then.........

    Talking More Lensbaby photos.

John was kind enough to help me obtain a lensbaby to play with. Yesterday after work I strolled around my block and took some photos with the lensbaby attached to my Canon 10D. The lens is a lot of fun to use. Focusing with the lens requires you to pull or push the accordion style lens. Getting proper exposure isn't difficult, however it does take some getting used to since the only option is to adust your ISO or shutter speed.

At the following link are the images from last night's playtime with the lensbaby.

    Woot!

    Great! Thanks for posting these!

It looks like fun. Might inspire me to pick up my 35mm's again.

    So basically what it does...

Is throws of depth of field?
Or it just blurs areas, in the way we used to have to vaseline a lends selectively to get blurred areas?

Very similiar to vaseline on a filter or lens.

The lensbaby lens has a very narrow sweet spot of focus, and the accordian style lens allows you to pitch the plane of the lens. If you want most of the image to be in focus you keep the lens flat and parallel with the camera.

It's fun to use. It brought a whole new experience to my Canon 10D. I find that I like the look of images with the Lensbaby that are within a couple of feet from the camera. It seems to perform better with shorter distances, IMO.

The lens comes with three washer type rings "aperture rings" that you use to change the aperture. The second three images were taken with the f8 aperture ring. The prior three images were taken using the f5.6 aperture ring.

One thing that I would like to try and hopefully will this weekend is a long exposure. Changing the focus point while taking a long exposure should create some cool effects.

The lensbaby is great - if you're willing to put a little time into it. As Robert pointed out, there is a pretty narrow "sweet spot" of focus. Can be a little frustrating at first, but the manual actually gives really good advice for how to hold/handle the lens. It's like having a mini hand-held 4x5! (That sounds ridiculous - but being able to skew your plane of focus on a 35mm is definitely new to me!)

One last note: I found that the results were much more interesting and effective on close-ups.

    Waaaah, I want one! ;)

Hey dollop, almost all your shots were of inanimate objects. I'd like to see what this thing could do with street shots.

Also motion, like a car coming towards you or something. I'll bet the soft focus would enhance the feeling of motion.

How much are these babies? (I probably didn't look at the website long enough)

And would they fit on my DRebel?
