A new home for action photographers!

I'm excited about the new Sports and Action Photography forum. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time. There are enough of us around to justify the new forum, and sports photo gear and technique are specific enough that we can use our own message board.

Looking forward to learning more from everyone who uses this forum!

    That would be me

    Brian-
I think I'm going to moderate this forum, until I find some uber sports photographer to take over. I'd like to find someone who isn't a bike photographer. There are enough of those around here. We could use some other influences, don't you think? Maybe a motorsports or pro team sports photographer.

The Web design forum will be in the ComputingREVIEW.com forums. I want to get everything else up and running before I add it, though.

    That makes sense...

I agree with you there John, the moderator of this forum should be a well rounded sports shooter and not someone who shoots one sports nearly exclusively.

I can't wait to see the Website forum!

Excellent! I like this. I just got back my other roll of film I shot at the hockey game and it didnt turn out so well. I kinda wonder if its the processing cuz the entire roll of film is rather dark so I am kinda bummed over that. I cant think of anything else that would have caused it to change like that between changing rolls of film. Ill upload one later so you can see what i mean and maybe shed some light on the darkness.

    Later,
    Jared

I wish I could qualify as uber sports photographer but alas I do not, or I'd volunteer to helpout with the forums.

Sharks vs. Flames! I went last night and the Sharks whooped ass! They're playing so tight now. It's awesome.

Post some photos. Let's get this forum rolling!

    This is cool.

I have always wanted a place where I could post some of my sports shots.

    Thanks PJ.

How to tell the most experienced shooter in a group? They have the least amount of toys on them.

    Jared-
I just posted a little "how to" on the Feedback message board:

    How To Post Photos

Let me know if I left anything out.

I think I may get back to some shooting this weekend. Both mine and one of my riding buddies' bikes have been broken for the last month. I have a temporary ride built up, and brad gets his back tomorrow, so I should be able to get some new stuff.

I've got mixed feelings about this forum. One part of me says "Alright", while another part of me worries that it might take away from Critique and Viewfinder. While I ride street bikes (I've got a Nishiki and a Schwin), I do enjoy the moutain bike shots, along with the football, baseball, etc. that get posted. As the forums begin to fill up, it's going to take more time to puruse them. Almost sounds like I'm complaining about having too many choices! Let me assure you, I am NOT complaining. It will be interesting to see how they work out.

Thank you for putting so much time and energy into this. The PR site is my favorite website. I love the interaction, the learning, the sharing, the whole atmosphere. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done!

I understand. But the purpose of this forum isn't the same as Photo Critique. Although people can and will post photos here, if you want a critique, the Photo Critique forum is the place. This forum is intended for discussions about action photography techniques and equipment. That's really very different from photo criticism. And the techniques are pretty specific. Plus, there are so many of us mountain bike photographers, and so many bike photo questions on the mountain bike site, it just made sense to make a specialized forum. I'm also hoping this new forum will start pulling in more professional sports photographers. I will be doing some recruiting.

Hope that makes sense and makes you feel better. This forum is in no way meant to replace Photo Critique, Help Files, or ViewFinder. There's always some crossover between forums, but I'm very careful about making sure each message board has its own unique purpose.

I like it for both technique questions, and also that as a 15 year old, I dont always go out on big shoots or anything, so sometimes I just want to share photos, not put them up for critique, although input is always welcome. I like that I can post here just to show other sports photographers what Im up to without having to worry about if my exposure was spot on or whatever. But my favorite part of this forum is having a place to learn about new techniques, or improve old ones.
