    Do you insure your equipment?

I know the majority of my equipment is nothing special. Mostly kit lenses for my DRebel with the exception of a Sigma 160-500mm zoom, but when you add it all up, along with the my AE-1 and lenses, plus all my accessories, bag, P&S digital and a couple P&S 35mm's, it doesn't take long to get to 2 or 3 grand in equipment. I know that it is covered under my home owners insurance for fire and theft and that sort of thing, but I'm thinking it would be a good idea to expand my coverage on my equipment. I spoke with my agent briefly today, and she said that it is pretty cheap to add that on but that is as far into as we got. It would be nice to know that my equipment would be covered in case I were to drop a lens or something along those lines. So I'm curious to know what everyone else does. Do you have a special pollicy to cover your equipment, and if so, what types of things do you want to make sure are in the policy?

Thanks in advance for your imput

PS I would have posted this as a poll, but I don't know how.

Re: Do you insure your equipment?

You may want to look into your insurance company. I enquired into insurance and assumed that it was covered under my house insurance, but found that it is only covered to a max of $1000, not very much when I have $7500 in gear. So I bought a policy to cover MOST stuff, bodies, lenses, big filters etc, for $11.00/month. Pretty cheap considering the alternative, and it covers everything (exept war)

I have a personal articles policy that covers my equipment through State Farm. It's not very expensive at all but you can't use any of the insured equipment to make money on my policy. Continue the conversation with your agent and I'm sure you'll get all of your questions answered.
