The only way to tell the difference is by the direction the meteor goes. If it is a Leonid, you can trace it's path back to Leo the Lion. As a rough guide, if it came from the southeast and went toward the northwest, then it was a Leonid. Once Leo is up in the sky, it's meteors move more south to north. Check out the sky atlas on astonomy.com or skyandtelescope.com and see where Leo was when you took the picture. It should be fairly easy to tell.Originally Posted by livin4lax09
