    Last night Meteor Shower

I wasn't able to keep my eyes open for it but I did manage to get 1 shot about 6am. Anyone else get any? From the east coast it was suppose to be amazing. Not too many falling here in California. This was two shots of the same meteor. I was surprised how long in took it to fizzle out.

All EXIF should be there if your interested.

I had my camera all set up and ready to go, I go out at 10:30 the sky was clear. The show was suppose to start here on the east coast between 1:00 am & 4:00 am well I went out at 3:30 am and it was very cloudy (DAMN) I was so pissed.

I was out from 1am-3:30am. I don't think I got any pictures, but I'll have to look again (I also took out a film camera, so I have to wait for it to develop)

Clouds rolled in about 3AM and combined with hearing complaints about cold toes for an hour, I called it a night and drove home.

It was way, way harder to photograph than I thought! Ideally I would have had 6-8 cameras!

If it took that long, sure it wasn't an Iridium satellite?

A what? I have no idea. I just know it fell out of the sky. Please educate me on this. I did see other meteors that looked more like falling stars, and fell much faster than this thing did (or were they just falling stars?). I have a bunch of pictures of those but I liked this picture the best because the sun was cresting the horizon and lit up the sky a little better, and I had the trees in the foreground, rather than just sky.. I'm the farthest thing from an astronomer so any info is appreciated.

Paul, I think your right. I just googled Iridium satellite, and this sure looks like the picture I took. Good call.

Two shots of the same meteor? How fast was it moving. Most meteors only last a split second. A one second burn is a slow meteor. It sounds like you photographed a satelite.

I caught two Leonids and a few random meteors on Monday night. I'll post them soon.

wow, that was a LOT harder than I thought it would be. Nonetheless, here's the only picture I got of a meteor. How can you tell the difference between random meteors and leonids, speed?

but while I was out there, I set up a 1.5 hr exposure and got this... not a meteor, but still kinda cool.

    oh i also made this

The only way to tell the difference is by the direction the meteor goes. If it is a Leonid, you can trace it's path back to Leo the Lion. As a rough guide, if it came from the southeast and went toward the northwest, then it was a Leonid. Once Leo is up in the sky, it's meteors move more south to north. Check out the sky atlas on astonomy.com or skyandtelescope.com and see where Leo was when you took the picture. It should be fairly easy to tell.
