    Introduction from Indianapolis :)

    Hi, all!

I'm Rick in Indianapolis. I've dabbled in photography for years, and a few months ago started really trying to learn and get better at it. Taken some workshops, read a lot, experimented a lot, and am having a great deal of fun in the process!

I'm a musician by trade, and in my spare time, I Geocache, hike, bicycle, camp...all those things are enhanced by having a camera around!

I'm looking forward to learning a lot here and maybe contributing something of worth from a newbie once in a while!

    Rick

I think you have come to the right place. Friendly community that is more than willing to help you improve your photography. From your list of other activities and interest I think you will also find a lot of like minded photographers here. Welcome and I hope to see some of your images soon.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I'm about 80 miles south east of Covington. Small town about 18 miles from the river 60 miles north east of Lexington.

That's a lovely area. Much of my family were coal miners in Eastern KY and TN. And I've played music a few times at Renfro Valley. Y'all certainly have lots of good places to take photos down there!

Sound like your one of the home folks Rick. I've been to the Renfro Christmas show a few times. Do you play in a band or are you a solo performer?

I do both. I played with the Shady Grove Band for about 25 years, and now I'm in a folk duo with Holly Smith (My other half) I play guitar, hammer and mountain dulcimers, harmonica, tinwhistle, and sing, and she plays fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and sings harmony. We do a lot of old Carter Family stuff, bunch of Frontier America stuff, quite a bit of Traditional Irish, and whatever else strikes our fancy at the time ;)

Welcome to one of the friendliest places on the web. I am also looking forward to seeing some of your pictures. My parents are 87 and 85 years old and I will be taking them up north to visit some of their old friends and will be coming back through and stopping in Renfro Valley on May 9th and 10th for a show and to look around. They have been there several times but it will be my first visit. Welcome again, Jeff

Jeff, hope you guys have a wonderful trip. You'll have fun at Renfro Valley I'm sure.

Just a hint from some who's been there dozens, if not more, times. They have afternoon shows there (depending on the time of year) that are very small, intimate, and have a very "unrehearsed" feel about them. They're like going to an old time jam session. They're a largely undiscovered part of Renfro Valley and might be something you and your folks would enjoy.

Kudos to you for taking your folks on this trip!

Must be Indiana week around here, just found one other person here from Fishers, and I'm hiding out in the McCordsville area.... we may have to have an Indiana get together now that there are are 6 or so of us although it may have to be at a race track as most of my weekends till fall will be spent eating dust and tire rubber.....

    Welcome Rick!

McCordsville, huh? My other half grew up in Fortville and Ingalls and we're over that way at least once a week to visit her parents.

Welcome! Join the club of people from the Indiana-Kentucky-Ohio area, lol.

Don't worry, it's the coolest club around. Blows those brits out of the water.

Ahhh, OK, well, I now live 8/10ths of a mile from Fortville....but have a McCordsville address.....and it's 5+ miles away! One of those trips this way we'll have to meet up. I avoid Fishers like the flu though.... I hate the traffic there!
