If I was in that situation I'd program my GoPro for 1 photo every 5 minutes, bolt it securely to the house, then go hide in a shelter!

    Stay safe everyone.

I like the way you think, Paul. I believe I would have to venture out for some photos, though.

Watched a program a couple of nights ago, couple of presenters showing how with proper body position you can handle 100mph winds.
Yeah, in a wind tunnel, with no gusts, and a predictable head on airflow, with padding behind to land in.

    In the real world?

    Bump.

How's our East Coast family doing? New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island? I'm seeing some crazy photos and video out of New York and New Jersey on Twitter right now. I hope everyone is ok.

In the real world you run a high risk of being impaled by flying debris.

Or being killed by a Staples sign (happened in Toronto today).

Several of our regulars have checked in over on FB. Even had a few pics. Everybody so far seems to weathering Sandy pretty well. Sandy's gift to Kentucky was a very early snow which cancelled school and cause a few fender benders but we were the lucky ones.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Nj

    NEW JERSEY checking in.

Wow! I live in northern NJ. We have been affected by fierce winds and rain in our area. Other places not far from us have catastrophic damage. I don't have to drive far to see trees all over the roads, many roads and streets are closed - and almost the entire area for miles around are without power.

Our neighborhood just got our power back at 5:30 a.m. I had just gotten up and was going to check if there was any hot water left for a shower - when my bedroom light went on!!!!!! The neighborhood never looked so good!

Most of my friends are still without power. They were told the areas with the most people would be first priority - so that lets most of them out!

New Jersey was hit first - and harder than anywhere else, although NYC and surrounding areas are extremely bad. Looking at all the news coverage is depressing, especially when it's about where you live!

As of yesterday, about 80% of the people in NJ were without power......not sure what it is today.

There are also very touching stories that are accompanying the bad news. On Sunday, one of the electric/power companies announced there were already 2,000 trucks that came from the Midwest in NJ waiting to help. The last hurricane we had - there were none here ahead of time. A friend of mine from Ohio told me people from all over Ohio are coming here to help - wherever they can!

God bless the American people - they always come through! :7:

    Thanks for asking John!

Thanks for checking in Liz! I was definitely thinking about you when I started this thread

Greg, I've seen both Gary and Megan posting on Facebook so I assume they're fine. I believe the hardest hit areas are the Jersey Shore, Long Island, Staten Island and the outer parts of Brooklyn and Queens. I think Megan lives in Queens, pretty near Manhattan. I'm not sure where Gary lives, though.

I'd glad to see people are OK!

I was actually in NJ/NY last week, and had Sandy nipping at my heels all the way home Sunday.

    Re: Hurricane Sandy Roll Call!

UPDATE on NJ - and some NY............

Although quite a few areas have power now, most still do not.

There are overwhelming situations in both NJ and NY. These situations include "local" fuel shortages due to most of the gas stations that do have gas, have no power; Gas station with power are running out of gas due to refineries as of yet without power. The lines in some gas stations are miles long.

There are many people in both states who have lost their homes, cars, and everything they have. Many of these people presently have no food, transporation, clothes, and no money. As of this morning, many are still waiting for help to arrive.

One thing that is controversial this morning is the fact that the mayor of NY has given the OK for the Marathon to run as scheduled. There are quite a few problems this is causing, the worst being the fact that they had to set up a huge "generator" in the park for power just for the Marathon. Many people are outraged because this generator (or whatever the official name is) could give power to more than 400 homes.

There is more help coming, but it is still slow. Tonight, the temperature will go to the low thirties......so

    Your prayers are needed folks!!!!!

    Thanks!

    Re: Hurricane Sandy Roll Call!

    UPDATE.....small one.

Much of NJ and NY is still a huge MESS. Thankfully, I believe that all the people have at least been reached and are getting food, clothing, shelter and support.

Most of my friends are still without power in NJ. Thankfully we have power here, but it's still almost impossible to get gas. NJ is now on the odd-even number system.....and some places limited to 10 gallons, although that may have ended today. Yesterday the military brought in some Federal trucks where people could get the gas right from the truck - up to 10 gallons - and the gas was FREE! That did NOT work. It was way beyond overwhelming, so they had to charge for the gas due to the numbers of cars that showed up.

My friend Judy and I went to PA to get gas yesterday as someone found a station that is well hidden in a small town. The whole way down there we saw huge lines at every gas station, but this little place had no waiting for gas at all!

We are told that the gas situation should be mostly resolved by Monday or Tuesday. Then Wednesday we are supposed to get a storm - a Noreaster. Although they are saying it is not huge, it may slow down the workers. This will not be good, so we are praying!

I'm here, I was just shooting the whole time.

My neighborhood was hit, but I'm on the edge of a Zone C. I fortunately never lost power, just internet and mobile phone for about 12 hours. We had lots of downed trees, lines, and crushed cars in Astoria. I was in the Rockaways helping my friend over the weekend. I've been documenting the storm since the 29th, and have tons of photos. I'll post some here soon.

PS - after looking through the entire thread, thanks for your concern. I do appreciate it! I feel like I've been in a real life Lord of the Rings - I've done nothing except walk and shoot for an entire week!

    Megan!!!!

I'm so glad to see you are okay. I did pray for you! I look forward to seeing the photos. I've been helping out some friends who just got power yesterday right before they got 10 inches of SNOW last night!!! Thankfully the power stayed on. I have a friend staying with me - she now has power at home so I am taking her back tomorrow. Thankfully she only has some minor tree damage....nothing serious!

Re: I'm here, I was just shooting the whole time.

Thank you Liz! I'm glad that your friend's power finally returned. I have friends who still don't have power, and have also run out of *gas* so they can't drive anywhere to get warm and get electricity! The snow storm was a bit of a setback, so frustrating. A set of photos that I took last weekend in the Rockaways is in Viewfinder here. I will also be putting together a more comprehensive photo + words essay here on PR nest week. Take care!
