Smile Get any photography related Christmas gifts?

A thread like this seems to surface every year, so I guess it's my turn to ask

I was a bit shocked and very pleased to find this little gem under the tree this year:
circa 1937 Voightlander Bessa in perfect working order (can't wait to grab some neopan 100 and try it out!)

Sort of. My wife got me a hand held GPS that I plan on using on my outings but it's not specifically for photo outings. The GPS does have a built in camera so I guess that counts. This photo was taken with the GPS last weekend.

    A book on Bird Photography.
Slightly dated, 2001 edition that mentions film only and not a word about DSLR.
Some good information in it, and a few good sample photos to aspire to.

Not as such... but my niece is showing photographic promise, so she ended up with one of my old digital SLR back-up bodies w/battery and an external flash and CF card thrown in as a gift. Original box and user manual as well. I burned the kit lens out shooting in a downpour, so my sister bought a used lens from Amazon.com - now my niece has a nice little fit-for-a-14-year-old beginner kit.

Re: Get any photography related Christmas gifts?

I got a Gitzo monopod and a couple of photography books and a couple of those little things you stick on your lens cap so you don't lose it, not that I am always losing them , but you know the kind of gizmo - one end sticks on the lens cap and the other end on the lens, that way you can't even misplace it. I was always sticking mine (lens caps) in a pocket or some where else and might not find it/them for a couple of days, so maybe these things are what I need.

The Gitzo monopod is a GM2541, carbon fibre, very light and compact, and I am thinking I would like some kind of quick release head for it. Does anyone have any ideas on a fairly inexpensive (read - cheap) solution so that I can take the camera and lens off the 'pod in a hurry, if I need to. I have a QR for my ballhead and it has been invaluable at times.

I hope all had a Merry and Happy Christmas and I wish all the members a Happy New Year.

    Cheers,

    WesternGuy

Re: Get any photography related Christmas gifts?

I gifted myself some nicer clothes for being out in the cold that I will use while photographing in the winter. I bought a good base layer of Under Armour and two sets of fleece long johns (1 mid weight, 1 heavy weight) to keep me warm and dry.
