Shot The Moon last night:

I have done this many times before, but it's never looked this good, due to an effective
focal length of 1200mm.
D70+ 2x coverter+Tokina 80-400mm zoom. iso 800, 1/800sec@ F5.6. 400mm of course. Surprisingly, the camera autofocoused! Not quiclky though.
Took about 10 shots and this one is the sharpest. Used a large tripod, but the image in the viewfinder was vibrating like crazy.
Nice long weekend is here, maybe I'll finaly get to shoot some people!

Nice...viewing anything at such long focal lengths is tough, taking pictures must be way harder...Here's my attempt at shooting the moon...Three out of five baby!!!

That's an awesome moon shot dude! What's that in front, it almost looks like a cacti.

Almo Shooting the Moon is also a technique in the card game Hearts found on most PCs I think. I sincerely don't recommend getting started or you'll start having bad dreams about black queens...

Cool Shot! I been hoping for a chance to get out the Celestron and shoot a few frames, but it's been mostly cloudy here for the past week or two.

One trick I read for setups like you used, is to use two tripods. Put the lens on one tripod, and the camera on the other one. It helps to take out the vibrations. Great for shooting landscapes, but you'll have to lead the moon a bit at that focal length, as it will cross your field of view fairly quickly.
