Thought I'd posted more in this (maybe an older similar one??) thread.

How to do a wedding group

I came across this scene outside the town hall in Versailles this afternoon. She's got the right idea for a large wedding group scene - place the participants on a set of stairs so they are all visible at about the same distance.

I would have done it a little differently:

    1. She didn't do anything to get the group to react at the right time. I'm really noisy when I shoot a group (Right you - move - and you. Right. Everybody ready? SHOOT. No that was no good come on let's have another one and this time everybody look at me etc etc even if the shot was OK)
    2. No flash. I always shoot with (a powerful) flash just to be sure I have light in their faces. Light balance would be a problem because the light was really blue (shadow on a sunny day with no clouds)
    3. I would definitely lose the Mercedes. Perhaps that's why she didn't use flash. The flash would illuminate this big shiny thing plonked in the foreground rather than the crowd

Well spotted. The car looks huge as well. It's just the effect of perspective - I had to use a wideangle setting (18mm) to "get it all in". But as I wrote last week, a wide-angle is not the best if you want a harmonious street picture.

The guy with the $7000 camera

I was at Paris Technoparade yesterday. A crush, as expected (the picture was done with me holding the camera over my head). I was in a little island of pro photographers. Everybody had a different approach:

    - me with the D300, 18-200 and cobra flash
    - a woman with the D700 and just a 50mm
    - a guy with a 40D and a 70-200
    - the TV guy with a big Sony video recorder. The kids loved him
    - this guy with the funny old film camera. Nobody paid much attention to him

Look more closely. That's a new Rollei 4.0 FW, list price $7000

    Re: Capture a Photographer

i thought we had a thread more appropriate for this but i couldn't find one, and didn't want to start a new thread. but here's a pic my dad took of me, the photographer, on our recent vacation. we got aten alive on this hike by bugs (hundreds of bites through 2 shirts, on my shoulders), but i had time to stop and take this picture (first photo in this thread Outer banks, North carolina. ) of the sun rise.
